Hi everyone,
I recently was able to retire in Southern California. We live close to a couple of lakes and I fish for Bluegill and Bass. I am fairly new to fishing, know how to feed the fish my bait well.
I did have a question about bait for both Bluegill and Bass. I use larvae now and catch a lot of bluegill. I would like to use artificial since the wife won't bait her hook.

Also the lakes here are at max 15-19 feet deep and in most spots I fish they are less than 10 feet. I do want to try and catch some decent bass and a fisherman that has fished the lake for a long time told me to use Rattle shard? He had caught 4 good size bass that night, one up to 6 lbs. Suggestions?

I have never seen that before. It does look like the fish kicked his butt. I bet the guy is unvaccinated as well.

I have 10lb mono (.011 diameter) reeled up and would like to start experimenting with a fluoro leader for the first time. I was gifted a 30lb leader that has a .020 diameter.

I understand there are certain knots that allow for different diameter lines to be connected.

Is it not advisable to connect a leader line practically twice the diameter size? Currently, I have decided on using an Alberto Knot and not have it go through the guides. I welcome other suggestions.

I couldn't find a chart on line that provides some guidances on diameter matching between mono and fluoro. It's been mostly to braided mains.

Thanks in advance.

I would use the Uni knot. It is a knot you need to learn to tie and I have even in darkness.
