Nah, it was a fuzzy belt, but it did take a while to undo. Wifey was in the next room, but I got free before I had to explain what happened!
I've been avoiding braid, but now I'm ready to try it, thanks to all the advice on this forum.
That knot website is awesome.

With so many, I would say any fishing with my dad, is a great memory.

This. Fishing with my Dad, (or my Mom or Aunt, who would take me in the summer if Dad was working). They're all gone now, but the memories are still fresh 50 years later.

Yep, California snakes definitely go in the water. Seen rattlesnakes in the San Gabriel River twice-- once while I was wading/fishing. Kinda weird seeing that head coming downstream toward you.
I also caught a small gopher snake that was swimming in the middle of Lake Pyramid when I was a teen.

Haven't been in a couple of months, but was doing pretty good on O'Neill forebay back in sept/oct using white flukes. Fishing the south side along the edge, and over the grass. Even had a day with 12 fish. All of them were right around 18-20". Silver Zara spooks work well too!
You can call the "Wind Talker"line at 209-826-9019 for an automated wind update. Good luck

Hey, thanks for that Wind Talker #! I'll be using it.

You sound like you already know that both lakes can get super windy. They have several sets of huge warning lights on both lakes that flash yellow for caution, and red for all boats off the lake now. I've been on the main lake when the yellows barely came on and got tossed around a bit in my 17' V hull Lowe, but nothing serious. . We kept fishing under yellow and it didn't get worse that day...Glad I wasn't in my kayak tho.

I went to the forebay first for a couple hours, then to the main for a couple more. Both lakes were great for boating, but i couldn't find the fish.

I was up there on Wednesday. I didn't get a bite or meter anything, and neither did the several others I talked to back at the ramp. Gonna try again soon.
It was easy to launch. No problems. No wind. Make sure boat is dry. They inspected thoroughly, including live wells and dropping the engine. My cover had leaked during the rain, so I was stopping and mopping on the way there.

Good fishing to you this year and your family. The boys got me a Cannon Down Rigger for Christmas I've never had one or used one will be a learning experience!!
Andy

I bought and learned how to use a downrigger this past year. Caught trout and Kokanee with it (down to 100' !), and am hoping to get out to San Luis for stripers this week. It's great to be able to put a lure right at the depth you see the fish at on the sonar without adding weights or guessing where it is.

I use them too. Maybe a foot to a foot and a half up the line,. And as a bonus it seems to help keep the line twist under control

Still using my brown Fenwick from the 70's. Mine's an ultralight that's been on dozens of backpacking trips, strapped to motorcycles and mountain bikes, and even caught fish in the ocean. The guides are a bit tweaked and green but original. I also have 3 Saber rods that are about 40 years old too. Those are my only ocean rods. I like all those rods and have replaced the reels at least once on all of them.
At this rate those rods will outlive me!

"Lost" glasses on consecutive trips this summer, one in the drink, and the other was a victim of my 3 fold hard tonneau. Fortunately they were $10 Field& Stream glasses from Dick's. (Yeah, I know we're supposed to boycott Dick's, but those shades are fantastic for 10 bucks... )
