Is it fine to have a splitshot with a spoon? if so, should the splitshot be far or close to the spoon?

I have used them on spoons for extra distance on small spoons on Trout ponds. I think about 6 to 8 inches up the line work well.
I use them with tiny trout lures...those that weigh less than 1/8 ounce. I don't clamp them on the line. I just use an assortment of sliding sinkers in 1/64, 1/32, and 1/16 ounce. This system works great.
I use them too. Maybe a foot to a foot and a half up the line,. And as a bonus it seems to help keep the line twist under control
18 to 22 inches for me on everything from a fly to a spoon or spinner. No scientific data, but it worked more than one half century ago when I first tried it as a guess on a small jig. I have seen nothing to cause me to change, but will in a heart beat if I am proven wrong or shown a better way.
