So I am from NC and have been going fishing a lot in the evenings lately. This evening, it was a slight overcast with a little bit of wind. I had quite a few hits on my BioSpawn Rattlebot (Red Craw color), but somehow managed to lose some as well due to a bad hook I guess. I have a Daiwa Tatula CT with an Ark Lancer Pro Series casting rod with 12 lb P-Line fluorocarbon. The only issue with the RattleBot is that it is collecting a lot of weeds and stuff from the pond that I fish. It is a very small farm pond with a good bit of weeds in it and is pretty shallow. Can’t be more than 10 feet in the middle and I’ve been seeing a ton of fish on the bank area, but I can cast out far and drag a bait right by their face and they don’t want it (Junebug Senko), but at other times they do want it, it’s weird. The main question I have is what would be a good weedless option to swap out with the red RattleBot? I tried red senko Texas rig, no luck. Something about the lipless crank RattleBot they loved, maybe the sound. What can work as good but have the weedless benefits?

--try sluggo golden shiner. hooked like a worm so it is straight. works pretty good or kalin 5" grub chatruesse or blue. has always for me in mass.

i use mustad hooks and other inexpensive hooks which seems to work very well. never lost a fish because of a bad hook. i am not crazy about very thin hooks, good fish can bend and you will lose it. also i use nothing but red hooks.

Hey. Is it just me or does anybody else do weird things before putting their boat in the water? I always talk to my boat, telling her “ I don’t want any trouble once we get out there” and patting her transom. Talk to me. Tell me I’m not too abnormal....
hope you don,t get an answer!

I want to catch and eat a fish but lately all my attempts to do so (mostly lake fishing for stocked trout) have left me skunked. I’m starting to get pretty frustrated and now sure what I’m doing wrong.

I’m not only interested in trout, I’d fish other species and saltwater too but I honestly don’t know where to begin with that.

Background info: I have a 7ft medium rod and limited to shore fishing. I live in the San Jose area and am willing to drive ~1.5 hrs each way if that’s what it takes.

I’m headed to lake texoma this spring to get on some striped bass which is pretty exciting, but to be honest after learning there are smallmouth there I may even be more pumped for that. I live in a weird area where there somehow aren’t really any smallmouth so I’ve never actually caught one before. Also I’m primarily a bank fisherman and we’ll be on a boat so I’m also lost in that aspect

To cut to the chase, I know pretty much nothing and am in need of some help to catch a smallmouth which is a huge bucket list fish.
