Babe Winkleman always said it best: "nothing like big pike fishing; nothing like it!"

Gunsmoke--Matt Dillon jailed an indigent for sponging and not getting a job. He exclaimed:
"Why should I have to work, I haven't done anything wrong"!!
I guess that pretty much sums it up.

Great pike and nice that they are careful to conserve the resource. In that vein could I humbly suggest that you discourage vertically suspending the bigger fish. Many studies have shown that damage is done when all that weight is pulling down on their neck structures. Horizontal holds are the safe way to go.

Good to see another "muskyhunter" on the site. I, too, favor pike and muskies. One thing is for sure--when the bite is on, you can do nothing wrong. I've had 3 in the boat in a half hour. Flying under my boat and grabbing the lure dangling in the water. Then going days watching them nose the bait and turning away. The best way to figure the bite is to FISH ALL DAY and you will hit it!!

It was only a few years back when I started to head back to the lake to fish. I doing this I noticed there were websites on the net which gave predictions of just how aggressive the the fish would bite. I would like to start a thread on this subject. I usually go to this address; https://www.accuweather.com/en/us/seattle/98104/fishing-weather/351409 Which is for the South King County area. But in the last two years of basing what day of the week I was to go on I do not recall a great catch coupled with a great prediction.
So, I would ask you theses questions;
* Have you used such a site and did it hold value?
* Did you actually have more activity on a day stating fishing would be good?
* Do you have a barometer and use it in your fishing plans?
* Do you have any tips where this might be helpful to better the chance of a limit?
* Do you know of a better website?
It was only a few years back when I started to hea... (show quote)

I was ice fishing on a big bay with about 20 other fishermen also. Quiet all morning. Then a snow squall came over the ridge and tip ups were popping up all over until after the squall passed. Then slow again. How can fish tell that under a foot of snow and 6 inches of ice? Scientists say that they cannot effectively measure barometric pressure change in water because it is not compressible like air. For some answers we are going to have to wait until we get to heaven (J. Vernon McGee). Moon phases and time of day are equally impressive as are storm fronts.

perch in weed bed areas with worms. Rainbows with powerbait left on the bottom off docks or trolling. I am not
good on rainbow lures. Tiger muskies are my forte at Curlew.

Early 50s. Out the door in the morning and Mom didn't know where we were going. "Be back in time for dinner"
("supper" in MN). No seatbelts or life jackets them days; bouncing in our 14 ft wooden boat in 2 foot waves with a
$25 used firestone outboard motor. So anxious for the start of season that we went out at midnight startup. Dont remember if parents knew that one. Got our pic on the sporting page in the MPLS Star and Tribune. The handle on the old level wind reels would spin backwards casting.
Dug and sold worms for 10 cents a dozen to feed our habits. No...not what you are thinking! Mom fed us well.

The "Y" bone hype is just that. They have a bone line between the rib cage and fins that "y's" on the end. Walleyes and perch and probably most others also have this bone but it does not "y" at the end. So they are not some terrible unusual scourge in pike. I fillet around them producing a single fillet each side and just waste a pencil thin strip of meat between the "y'". You got good info above. Enjoy pike fishing. I do too.

Don't worry about squawfish. The introduction of tiger muskies in 1998 have cleaned them up nicely. The WDFW surveys indicate their populations are now close to zero. Trout and kokanee are prevalent. Perch were illegally introduced 5 years ago and are competing mightily with for food for the trout. Have urged WDFW to introduce more muskies to hold down the perch exploding populations but they claim muskies won't eat perch. The tiger muskies are sterile so they won't overpopulate. The Minn DFW has a muskie diet study on Lake Miltona and it shows that their diet includes 40% perch. So there!

A person from Republic told me two Sundays back that the ice had receded from the shorelines but had a lot
of ice left across the lake. Hasn't been all that warm so you may be fishing shorelines.
