Thanks...I'll give that a try!
Might be an odd question, but how do you fish the mouse tail? Static above the weeds, or cast/retrieve (or troll)? I've seen these but not used them. Planning on giving the white head/pink bodied ones a try once the season opens next year.
Dress appropriately in layers. It can get a little chilly out, especially when you get your hands wet. Talk to the guide about what to bring. Some provide lunch, some don't.
You are surrounded with great fishing, both on the Idaho side as well as the Washington side. There are several rivers and lakes around you. Do you drive? Have a boat? Check with the Idaho Fish and Game dept. Right now, there's good fishing for Lake Trout and Kamloops trout in Lake Pend Oreille, Lake Coeur d'Alene has many species of fish, and the Coeur d'Alene River and St Joe's rivers are great trout water (mostly fly fished). Further South, the Clearwater and Snake rivers are putting out salmon and steelhead.
A little more info would help you get better answers to your questions. I agree with flyguy, go to a local sporting goods store (Cabela's in Post Falls, North 40 in Coeur d'Alene) and talk with the outfitters there. They are there to help you.
Although this Marine might question your statement that Rangers first to go into harms way, I do and always have a special place in my heart for medics. Thanks to all veterans who've served.
Wow! Well stated. Thanks!

There's a reason they call them the "fish of 1,000 casts"...
I think DC nailed it in his answer. Trout, panfish (Perch, bluegill, crappie), Walleye and Catfish along with other species are found in Potholes reservoir. Might consider trolling a #5 Flicker Shad in Fire Tiger or Perch patterns around the Dunes area (just North of the State Park launch) that time of year. Walleye bite can be very good and they are a fish to keep as they are great tasting fish. Also bring along some Panfish magnets for when you get into a school of perch or crappie. If you get a chance, swing by the MarDon bait shop. Those folks are very knowledgeable about what's going on in the lake as well as the many surrounding smaller lakes. They'll steer you into what the fish are biting. Good Luck!

Walleye and catfish in the Palouse river confluence with the Snake. Haven't heard an update on the Steelies...
Got T-Boned by a doe the first day I drove my new Civic to work. Tough way to break in a new rig...
Here's to a speedy recovery. Get well soon!
