Thanks for the memories, life was so much simpler then.
Hey let's not forget S&H Green Stamps.

What I had in mind was " OH For Unnatural Carnal Knowledge"!
I couldn't possibly think of a more appropriate expression under those circumstances.

New Member. Hello Everyone.👋 Fish on! 🎣

WELCOME ABOARD ROCK!,

There's a few FS members down here, Brownsville Tony, (Weslaco) Forester Ed (Laguna Vista) and myself
(Brownsville). We do mostly surf fishing and occasionally hire a local guide. Send me a PM if you're down this way
and we'll see about a trip to SPI.
Spring Break is basically over but wind conditions haven't been cooperative.

SPI 3/11/32 - 90*, sunny, clear emerald/blue water 15 MPH winds.

The screenshots are of Clayton's, one of the hot spots on SPI. (pier extension under construction)

The party starts at about 11:00 AM and continues till 2:00 AM. As the evening approaches, the hardbodies begin to congregate for more live music more booze, wacky weed and who knows what else. Before the party is over, some parents will receive that dreaded phone call from either a hospital or jail.

Mind you, this is just a warm-up to the migration about to take place. It's expected that the crowds will transform the island into a huge party-town for the next 4 weeks. The Queen Isabella Causeway, the only access to SPI, will get jammed up, causing delays of 1 1/2 to 2 hrs., to cross a 2.2 mile bridge .......unless you have a boat!

I looked for Brownville Tony in the crowds but didn't spot him.

BTW, the extension, when finished, on the existing pier promises yet another way to fish.

CHEERS!

It's to dam windy to fish the surf today in Surfside Texas! So feed the birds and get some #beactherapy !

Same on South Padre Island.
Another problem....Spring Break starts this month and accessing the island by the only bridge is a major problem, not to mention all the hard bodies!

Is it just the tug, the line being stripped , , seeing a fish jump and finally landing it? Those are fun things, but I bet if most of us fished in Cabellas fish tank, we would probably get bored quickly. Or is it the pursuit and a chance to test our skills and mind and figure out how to catch a specific species. Most of us spend days or hours strategizing, picking lures, studying maps and perfecting techniques. Anxiously awaiting the time we can get to the location we’ve been thinking about and test our strategy. All this brings us to a place to commune w nature and be challenged. Learning from others is essential, but don’t be afraid to figure some things out alone. Always an adventure and you just might surprise yourself. That’s my take!

No matter how many times I've been skunked, setting out on a new day is refreshing and challenging. The adventure of "what you're going to catch today" is an exciting mental high, unequaled to my other activities in retirement.
(careful, careful, I know what you're thinking!)
I keep it simple and only check weather and wind conditions. The rest is pure enjoyment and surprise.

Humm......a bit of a tongue in cheek on this one. Interesting but need more details.
If true, it would be a boost to current energy issues.

Oh, I know Robert, I look at the weather every few days down in SPI. We have friends in Harlingen that we talk to, and it depresses me so much that I have to have a Miller Lite.

With so much snow you might want a shot or two of tequila instead!

This is a short video about illegal fishing in Texas waters by poaching Mexicans. The poachers boat has a motor on it that will do 30MPH, but the Coast Guard’s Boat is much faster. I thought y’all mind enjoy watching the short boat chase. These waters are in the Gulf Coast near Corpus Christi and are constantly fished by the Mexican poachers using nets and traps.

These guys don't discriminate, they harvest everything they catch regardless of species or size and sell to restaurants and fish markets in Matamoros.

Years ago, when it was safe, I used to go to "Playa Bagdad" with some buddies, sort of a Mexican version of
S. Padre Island but much more primitive. Excellent place to eat fajita tacos, burritos, tortas and all kinds of Mexican dishes on the beach while listening to mariachis and downing Coronas. They weren't expensive (about
$ 1.25 each) so you can imagine how twisted everyone got, including the senoritas....I better stop here or I'll be posting from the basement.

Anyway, back to the Mexican fishermen; this is where they operated from. It resembled a Pirate's landing with dozens of these boats (lancias) and all kinds of illegally caught fish from the US side. Very sad sight to see.

Occasionally, while surf fishing on S Padre Island, I'd see a chase or two. Got to give those Coast Guard boys credit for protecting our fisheries from Mexican poachers.
