Great photo, that is the type of photo everybody likes. Kids catching fish, If only it were that simple today? I only
wish I could bring the kids on the local fishing docks out in the boat with me, in hopes of them catching maybe the biggest fish of their life. Or even give them maybe a fish lesson that could last a life time.

Being a guide in Minnesota, I also fished most of the Metro lakes. What species are you hoping to find? Do you have access to a small boat? I have fished these lakes with a 10 ft Jon boat and a 12ft V-bottom. Only electric motors allowed on Minneapolis lakes, many have good Walleye fishing? I would use leeches as a prime live bait, followed by crawlers. Jiggin Jim.

That's one of my favorites, I sell the tied bobber stops. I have used these for years, even for stopping my live bait sinker for distance from hook.

This time of year rivers are going to have fish biting. It's best to check with local bait shops and check the regulations of where you live. As for myself in Central Minnesota, inland lakes are only allowed to fish for panfish, that means driving to a border water. There again reading the regulations as to size, numbers and species. Also in Minnesota fishing for a species that the season is closed, will make your bank account lighter. Big NO NO, catch and release does not apply to closed seasons.
Good luck, If I could, My thought would be Green Bay, for large walleye. Good chance at that one for your trophy wall.

Having owned two Suzuki outboards, I have found them to be most reliable of any outboards I have used or owned.
Being a fishing guide in Minnesota for over 22 years, I run outboards hard, I have had to rebuild and replace props for my days in the river. But as for day in / day out running. My Suzuki's has not let me down, I had a 60hp four stroke and now running a 90hp four stroke. I only wish the boat company would have set a 690 tiller Ranger to have a 115hp rather then a 90.

That was once the running joke about fish finders at seminars. Bring your brother-in-law if your wife will not allow you to buy a locator.

Well, since I started this….my posting was to hopefully get folks to understand to be in the moment, have all of your pre-launch prepared before you go to the ramp and not block the ramp off…..my reference to “two of them” was not worth to get in an argument over their behavior, since my main goal was to go fishing and enjoy the day.

Common sense sometimes appears to be in short supply these days😊

Agreed, Many people have zero idea about how to speed things along at a boat ramp. Fishing the Mississippi river, one boat area launched over 100 plus on a double ramp, in less than one hour. These guys knew what they needed to have ready before getting to the boat ramp.
Boat tie downs removed, all items needed to our time on the water placed in boat. Boat was checked in the drive ways at home to be sure motor starts and runs. checked battery before leaving home.
Much of boat maintenance begins at home.

Seems rather stupid how a this goes from ramp etiquette, to who has the biggest Saturday night special. It all goes back to education, has anyone ever thought the maybe publish in local papers and have signs posted near boat ramps stating things to do before getting to the ramp?

Jigg you must be lucky enough to have a place you can park at night to fish n feel safe doing it. The lives of my family n myself are worth defending. Former military I'm guessing you went to places to defend strangers. Why should we not be allowed to defend ourselves in our country. No I'm not affiliated with any group other than the Marine corps. Government has no problem sending troops to fight n die for others. Still they want to deny us the right to defend ourselves. I don't go looking for trouble but if backed in a corner I can't get out of guess it'll get ugly. What you do if every in that situation if entirely up to you. Hope neither of us ever find out

Here in Minnesota, not many people are going to make a boat ramp, The Modern OK Corral. As most people that fish after dark, are also hunters and have more fire power then the police force. Many of the ramps also have lights, some even have cameras that go to local police stations.

That's why I do fishing trips early in the day. I leave when most of the goof balls are coming out to go wakeboarding and tubing. Let these crazy nuts have the water during the middle of the day. I will go fishing in the evenings when 75% are going home. I refuse to do fishing guide trips on some lakes mid day. I have had too many close calls with morons on the water. I go to a lake to fish not tubing or wakeboarding. If you want to surf find a ocean or go to Lake Superior. Bring your heated suit as the water does not get over 55º even in August. The best waves are in November through the first of the year.
As for the gun issue, this country needs to go back to death penalty. Because some knuckleheads thinks they own the road, and getting to their job before you. does not equal to shootings. I drove 170 miles each day when working full time. Only once did I have an issue of road rage, that cops were called. no guns. My guns are for hunting and home defense, 28 years of military service. My grandfather told me many years, "There is nothing on this earth worth going to jail or losing your freedom for a single day for." Is it that important? Find if you what to go first to think you're going to catch the first? HA HA. Seen that before.

I still don't understand the idea of having to carry, just to go boating? What can be so important or so demanding that guys get that upset at a ramp other than somebody not know good Boat Ramp Etiquette. I would rather be launching in the dark of the morning, then to show up during the 11am to 4pm goof ball time frame.

The other one that I find, is a family has a boat tie to the dock while waiting for hubby to go park truck/trailer they have zero idea about how to operate the boat. I told several families what if he falls overboard, or gets hurt and can not operate the boat.
I had knee replacement, two months later doing a fishing guide trip. I was launching my boat, two others tied to the dock waiting for boat operator. I'm alone launching, with six boats behind me, two ramps. I use my 15 ft. car tow rope for launching, boat floats off trailer, I tow boat to the ramp. I disconnect rope from boat. With no place to park boat, I leave it as far to the side of ramp as I can. Most people drive 3 blocks to park trailers. I found a spot 40 yards, from my boat back boat in disconnect trailer from truck as required in this lot. park and return in 4 minutes. others are upset with me. BUT< the other boats I was waiting to move were still sitting there not moving. I go to get into my boat another starts bitching at me. Knowing he is another one of the wake boat people. I told him go back to your truck, or I will sit on the ramp and wait for the dock to open, to meet my clients.
As he cocks arm back as if he tries to intimidate me. I tell bozo, if you think thats going to get me to move faster. you're wrong. Either throw that bunch or walk away. If you bunch me, I'll own you for life, I have better lawyers then you. I told him I could have sat, waiting to have a dock spot, but decided to get boat in water and ready to go. He still had not gotten boat ready for launching. As tie downs were not removed, all other gear was still in the back of his truck. What a fool. His wife yalls' at him, I turn push my 18ft glass boat out and float out 200 ft for my clients to show,
