Hey neighbor :) I have not ventured to those spots yet. I've been mostly going to the jetty in Ocean City and Bayside. Not to mention the public Piers on 4th and 9th St. Oh, and off route 90 right before OC. It will pickup in a few weeks, the water temperature has mostly been 42-43f. It's up to 49f as of today.

The flounder and trout will be moving back in. Soon afterwards the Striper's will start there migration runs. Lol, from what you wrote I should have. I'll see if anyone posted anything in the Fishidy app.

Whenever I go rock fishing I only use unweighted bait or floater. If I try a rig with a sinker it's pretty much guaranteed a snag. Can it be overcome?

I use a three way swivel on about 2 - 2.5 leader. I tie a hook of course on one, but I use a longer lighter piece of only 6-8 lb line for the weight. This way if it gets caught in the rocks it will easily break off. And all you lose is the weight.

If you don't have lighter line. Buy those large paperclips that are coated. I use a Palomar knot to tie it on. And when I add the weight the paperclip is in it's original form, just be careful when casting. Sometimes I use a Carolina rig.

Most people are very selective about the type of fish they catch and keep (including bait).
Although I have been accustomed to doing this at times , I have been reacquainted with
the boyhood like approach of just going fishing , having fun , and "keeping all you catch !

If you want to catch fish and freeze it, just buy it from the store, it will notv taste the same. I only keep it if I'm going to eat it that night.

All the reviews I've seen about those pen rods say the reels on both of them ( they make a spinning one too ) are junk. Your best bet might be to get the smallest spincast reel you can find and put it on the rod. I was gonna get the spinning version but then I thought why bother? I always have a 2 piece ultra light rod in the trunk of my car or the toolbox of my truck.

Yeah, I have a small Shakespeare 2 piece I've never used. I should throw that in the back of the truck. It would be nice out of the blue, just pull over toss a jighead with a soft plastic and relax.

So, I am completely new to baitcasting and I bought a fairly nice baitcaster (go hard or go home right?). I watched all the videos and set it up properly for a newbie to cast. Yet, it either goes 10 feet out, or bird's nests. I'm using a pretty light lure, so I thought about switching to something heavier to get used to casting first.

Any recommendations on lures or casting tips other than what's out on the internet?

Edit: I'm running a Johnny Morris RT4 paired with a Abu Garcia Revo SX.

When I first started using one my second issue was remembering to start applying pressure with my thumb on the spool just before it hit the water. My first one, was the breaks. I have six of them, I started out with 5 on and now deciding if I should take the last one off.

There are some great tips on YouTube especially how to and don't do to handle a bird's nest. I wish I watched those before I went I went out 1st and 2nd time :)

What can I carry in a kit to enable successfully catching fish in a strict survival scenario, whereabouts yet to be determined?

Lol, Here's my survival kit a friend gave me on my last birthday. I assume it does function, guess I should put line on the reel and keep it in my glovebox.

Thanks to ALL who have responded. The outpour of love and concern during this time from all of y'all on the stage is truly comforting and amazing. There are so many of your responses and PM's that I cannot answer all personally. But I want to say Thank you to all the posts. The best thing we can do is just pray that all will work out. As Randy quoted Romans 8:28, that all things work for the greater good. We'll just have to wait and see how her surgery goes. It was suppose to start at 11am and they think it will take LONGER than the 4 hours they initially thought it would take. Thank you again, and God bless you all. Steve.

First time fisher here so I have no idea what I'm talking about. I fish in a river and I've never caught a single fish. Supposedly the bass and black drums are popular in my river and people recommended spoon lures. Do I have to put worms or chicken liver on them?

I personally like using fishbites with a spoon and some lures, they also have worm flavor. I have a pack of them I haven't tried.
Been using clam, shrimp and crab flavor.

I pretty sure price gouging should be reported to the attorney general of the state it took place in.

I have a vacation/fishing trip to Maine in a few months. And the lake has sturgeon in it. I have a couple extra heavy rods, a depth counter baitcaster, a boat with depth/fish finder, and can purchase whatever else I'd need if it isn't too crazy expensive.

But sturgeon is a bucket list fish. If I can get lucky and hook one on vacation that'd be pretty tight. Anything helps. Thanks.

I thought they were added to the Endangered Species Act in several areas?

I won’t pretend to know any more than they are spewing at us on TV, on the radio or on the Internet, but I saw a Dr encouraging the parents of the kids whose schools are shut down to get them outside. To me it seems a lot of us have an opportunity to take a kid or two fishing. The school districts will be scrambling for ways to have them learn remotely where possible. For those who are lucky enough to be retired and able, how about offering to help out the parents as they try to figure out their own plans around this situation? Our waters are just starting to open up here in WI, so I am hoping to take my Grandkids out soon. Who knows, they may learn some useful things and you may develop some fishing partners, too.
