Caught 8, lost 5 or 6. One was a real heavy fish that took me into a tree and got off. Never got to see him. These 3 all were a little more than 2# each.
Well played, Saw. Keep up the good work šš»
Nice fish šš». How high up on the river are you fishing?

You are in heaven, Slayer
It only lasts for a few months. Then on to the next species. But these steelhead are lots of fun. Iāve got a few buddies who say that the only thing comparable is tarpon and bone fish. Iāve caught bones and most native steelhead fight better than the bone. Never caught a tarpon. Guess I need to add it to the bucket list
All native fish and have to be released. Oregon allows you to remove the fish from the water, Washington state doesnāt. Iāve gotten pretty good at tailing my fish and releasing after a quick picture. Most of the time I donāt get video. Iām not much of a fish eater, so I locate native rivers and like to squish my barbs.

Nice fish buddy. Too many details on locations; crowded already...
I hardly saw any. Iāll keep the intel on the down-low

Awesome catch and pics SS. Thanks for sharing.
Thx guys!! For a few months every year, I dream about the fight of these chrome bullets!! Had this addiction since childhood (thx dad). Hope to pass it on to my boys.
Weather is about to change and my dreams convinced me to go back. Found the big boy again. Fooled him into biting again! Then preceded to get schooled in the way of large steelhead. Doubt heāll be around for round 3š„. Did manage to find a couple different ones to battle with. Seems to be a rather ālarge fishā season. Iāve had to adjust my gear a little. Slightly bigger nymphs than normal due to needing stronger tippet. Hardly see people use trout tactics for winter steelhead, but it can work great. Only a month more of steelhead season to go. Donāt forget to get outš£
Portland, Oregon. I just updated profile. I enjoy throwing flies on the north coast rivers. Iām lucky enough to have a dozen different rivers to choose from. Everything is low and clear right now, so I was sight fishing on 3 different rivers. I enjoy solitude when fishing, so most locations are known but hard to get to. Keeps most people away and fish less spooky. Yesterday I fished the Trask, North Fork Trask, and the Kilchis. The big guy was caught on the Kilchis, other two on the N.F.. I know itās always the one that got away....but I lost a big native buck that looked 43+ā. Now I know where he abides. Had great dreams about him last night. Oh well, guess I head back Sunday šš»
Got lucky yesterday. Hooked 5, landed 3. Nothing better than catching steelhead on poorly home-tied fliesš¤£. Nonetheless, Iāll take it!! Middle fish measured out at 41ā. Not a P.R., but close!! You gotta love the fight in these chromers!

Looking at how to find an article by Matt Straw on how to tie a fly with a special kind of very buoyant marabou. It is supposed to pulse a lot. Thanks.
You talking āSweet Marabou Treatsā? Very effective way to catch many different species of fish. Iāve been tying and twitching jigs with marabou for 35 years. Always used weighted jig and tied different colors. Marabou by itself is buoyant, but Iāve found that one wants a little weight for success. Tight lines

Anybody currently finishing rivers and streams or ocean North West Oregon ?Rollin
Yes. Always fishing!! Went yesterday. 6 coho, 1 chinook, 1 chum and a half dozen sea-run cutthroat. Fished a tributary of Tillamook Bay. Only saw 2 other boats where I was at.

I've used my spey on the mouth of Siletz, here on the Oregon coast....Only fly rod ever there. I'm constantly amazed with spoons ,spinners eggs and bobbers, I'm hooking up on a regular basis with A Chartreuse Clouser in tide water, maybe a foot under surface on a fast swing in 8' feet of water.. and they absolutely crush this thing.....Fish On!!!
Iām in Oregon as well. I also toss clousers for chrome nooks, but a little farther north and with the switch. I too have a tendency to out fish most on most days. Heading out on the weekend for a little isolation and some chrome. Tight lines. Canāt wait for the steelhead to show up.
Weāve had this discussion over the fire before and our consensus was weāre not smart enough š¤£ to figure it out. Iāll use my Spey rod sometimes on big rivers, but only with nymphs. Wish I couldāve helped more š¤š¼

An 8 at spey is nowhere near an 8 wt. More like a 10 or 11 in grains, so what are spey rod weights based on.....you can't do anything with a true 8 wt. line on an 8wt. Spey. ????
Sell the spey and buy a switch. Way more effective. Iāve been out fishing my Spey buddies for years.
Donāt need a rack or new truck. Buy magnetic rod holders for your vehicle. I have a pair that are suction and would recommend magnet. Good luck
