2 inch minnows or a small jig with white feathering. I usually use a float about 4 to 5 ft above the bait. I am also from Wi and fish lake St Germaine and always do well with the crappies. Give lake Content a try for the big bluegills. I prefer them over the crappies.
I think silver bass is the white bass. In Tx they call them sand bass. Fun to catch and very good eating.
Hi jimred. How do you go about skinning your bass b4 cutting off the fillets. I have always cut off the fillets then slide the fillet knife between the meat and skin. That part takes about 3-4 seconds.
When I fished in northern Saskatchewan they called the walleyes pickerel or pike and the northern pike were called jacks. Different localities have their local names. I have heard some areas call crappies spotted perch. So let’s all go catch some pickerel, pike and spotted perch and have a great fish fry.
Fun to catch, good fighters, slimy and I have never tried eating one. Dogfish.

If I keep a bass, “usually catch and release,” I will fillet and skin them.
Not a rock bass. This is a rock bass.
I think your right that it is a shell cracker. I see red color on the head. Otherwise known as a red ear..down here they are known as a bluegill on steroids. They will get over 3 pounds.

Snook in Florida and big bluegill in Wisconsin. Fun to catch and delicious to eat.
No, I didn’t pee myself but sitting in a very low chair and having 2 bad knees and knowing I can not get up out of that chair fast enough, if he decides to come at me, is a bit unnerving. I guess I made the right decision by sitting very still. He did come up for a second look a few minuets later.
Yes, the bluegill is one of the many fish in the sunfish family as is the largemouth and smallmouth.
