South of Zanesville might have 50,000 strip pits. You can get lost out there. But I bet you they’re full of fish. The best ones have an inlet and an outlet stream.
A 7 pounder my son caught.
Last year’s two 4 1/2 pounders, one at night.
Hi Ohio guys.
No I don’t mind saying. I fish Belmont County. I have a string of strip pits I’ve been fishing since I was a kid. We used to be able to ride bikes in. Road was packed hard as asphalt. Those days are long gone. So is the road. The good part? Everybody has to walk, and it ain’t easy. 😬
It’s kinda like a lake. You figure out the hot spots and then you drive the boat around.
With strip mines, you don’t need a boat. The good pits are the hot spots and then you walk from one to the next, no boat required, just a stiff upper lip and some true grit.
And don’t go roaming around in the dark unless you know exactly where you’re going. You can catch some big ones in the dark though.
It’s still warm. Might try again.
Hot tips. Strip pit bass are cannibals. Other bass are the only things big enough to support a big bass. Big baby bass swim baits, glide baits, and the biggest Strike King spinners you can find are the hot tickets.
Happy fishing! Even in November.
Thanks guys! Yeah, I will get those back straps another day. Hunting season for me starts when my fingers are too cold to tie knots.
Maybe I mis-said it, this fish is my November PB. I will include a pic of my all-time PB, caught in May from the same string of strip pits, 8 lbs 4 oz on a big baby bass colored swim bait.
November 13th, went hunting the rut, but the dang weather was so nice I couldn’t do it and grabbed my rod out of the truck and “shot” this instead!
In northern Ohio, you can add half again to match up to Fla, Tx, and Cal, right, which makes that one a ten pounder!
Just kidding but maybe not, what do you guys think?
That is the prettiest flounder I’ve seen.
Hey sounds good! Probly looks good too, if we had a pic. 😬
I agree about the watching and the listening.
Disagree about the tipping, sore spot with me.
The captain wants 20% also, so on say, a $300 boat charge per person, you’re paying an additional $60 X 2 - per person.
Yeah.
Just put the price where it needs to be, ok I say?
On my job I tic all the boxes mentioned and uh, got tipped once in 40 years.
I recently was part of a musky charter. The tipping $$ was very large and it spoiled the trip for me.
Did “catch” a big one tho.😬
I only got to hold the tail, and they made me throw it back, and then charged me an extra $120. 😑
Man you gotta do something and yaks get sketchy out there.
Nice pair of beauties. What were they hitting?
Looks like you’re hanging with the right kind of boys.
