Does anyone have any tips on best locations to fish for coho and pinks in Area 8-1? Does the mouth of the Skagit River produce? I know about Deception Pass, tricky area to fish. Any help appreciated.
Do you plan on fishing year round in the rain and cold? Will you go alot of trailering? If yes, then a hard top with heater. If you have 6 in the boat you need room and kids get whiny in bad weather. As mentioned ft and wide beam. Like this...
Hard to go wrong with Weldcraft and Duckworth. 5 kids is alot in a boat.
John, have you tried the Skagit for sockeye yet? I'm going to try tomorrow.
Awesome Cuda and they taste good!
That's awesome! Going to go next week closer to Mt vernon.
Bapa, where do you fish in area 8 for targeting sockeye?
Skagit is now open for Sockeye. Anybody have any reports, any luck?
Nice one! And the Coors Light is ready to use to make beer batter and fry it up!
If you have never been to Priest Lake it is worth the trip. Not too far from Pend orielle. Good Mac fishing and the kokanee are the biggest I've seen.
For macks at Pend orielle I've had luck at Whisky Rock early in the day. It's straight out from the Bayview launch.
Skagit River is open for Chinook until end of May. However, as of today near Mount Vernon the River is very high, very fast, muddy, lots of debris and basically not fishable . Hope it calms down and we can get some days in. Nice of WDFW to open it but would be better to have it open when it's actually fishable.
Sometimes they are bright too even that far up the river.
Yep. I've been fishing the fall run for over 25 years. They can get up to 45lbs. 25 is common. 10 to 20 is average. The simpler the tackle the better. Using eggs from hens caught in the spawning grounds will out fish anything. However, piece of herring wrapped on a K14 Quickfish deep in the holes somehow entices the biggest fish for me.
The September run on the Hanford Reach produces awesome fish and they smoke up amazingly well. Here is a pic of 2 years ago. Eggs on a jet diver spin and glow.
