Sorry. Fir this late reply. I would fish that area from late June to mid August. Also. I forgot I had some good success with 2-4 oz white bucktail jigs there to. I like to dip the bucktail in fresh anchovies ground up or smashed. I also use a white worm trailer on the jigs, I caught the big one on a chovie though. Smaller ones on bloodworms. Also I never tried this but had success in the aqueduct, San Luis. and local lakes here in so cal where I’m located now. And that’s chicken livers. Sometimes they can’t resist them. I would try using them surfin it. Never no. It might work. Those bass come from their right down the duct to the lakes. Just sayin. Good luck. Go get em.

You are correct Jeremy. Sharpe hooks a must. And herring further north is appropriate.
I’ve always used anchovy from Moss landing up to the Bay Area though. Seems I’ve always had better luck with them. But sometimes trolling a squid works also. Right place right time helps to. You just never know.

Yup. Listen to these guys. Some good info. I’d go with the flasher and chip in front of a anchovie on a harness rig. Or sometimes super slow troll a big flatfish lure. You’ll need to experiment with color and size and depth of course. Good luck.

Hi all. As a transplanted NJ jetty jock fishing for stripers for most of my life, I finally got my wife to join me for beach fishing in SF. (I also got her to go to a Giants baseball game, but that was a one-and-done event.)

We’ve hit beaches from Point Reyes to Monterey Bay and everyplace in between with almost no success in over two years, except for a 30 in beauty at sunset in Santa Cruz. But that was one hit (and a fortunate catch) in way too many attempts.

I’ve also fished spring to fall, but try to focus on the afternoons & evenings when the tides are highest near sunset.

We’ve thrown plugs and she’s fished bait. I’ve read the beach, fished the rips and holes, near the rocks and the bars, and inlet jetties.

I just can’t seem to get any kind of success like what I’ve had on the east coast.

Before I hang up my waders and stow my rod and reel for good in this area, any suggestions on what I can do to get out of this slump?

Frustrated and despondent.

Hey Ed. I use to live up that way. I
Like the Pacifica south to Linda mar beach areas. Toss anchovies and blood worms as bait just pass the breakers or toss anchovies looking plugs and white plastics. It’s not a everyday bite but when you get em you usually really get em. I’ve limited there several times. And my best jail bird was 42 1/4 pounds. But most are in the 12-15 range though. Just like you I looked all over but found this area to be my go to. I went out on the bass tub out of frisco and the capt went straight to Linda mar right up to the breakers in that big boat. Everyone caught strippers. And topped off with some salmon. Good luck buddy. Give it a try and keep at it there a few times. You might get surprised
