Baitfish emit electricity. Echips are similar to a piezo ignitor a small electric generator to reproduce baitfish electrical discharges. I thought it was very crazy but it is very effective. You can run these in front of a blue Fox type spinner or plug cut herring and have excellent results. There is devices for fisherman that emit electricity onto downriggers as well. Blackbox is the name of a device by Scotty. Russian scientists discovered the baitfish emitting electricity and have experimented with the electric for quite awhile now. The super baits can be trolled alone or behind any of the triangles or surfboard shaped things with good results. You need to add tuna for scent in the super bait. Itโ€™s nice to not have to keep cutting bait or finding fresh herring. Green label is the best size unless targeting huge Chinook. Take a good large Salmon net too.

See the little electric generator?

Yup. Listen to these guys. Some good info. Iโ€™d go with the flasher and chip in front of a anchovie on a harness rig. Or sometimes super slow troll a big flatfish lure. Youโ€™ll need to experiment with color and size and depth of course. Good luck.

Anchovy is ok. Here in Oregon we usually use Herring though. Always test hooks for sharpness. I learned from a Salmon Fishing guide many decades ago to push the hook into your thumbnail and try to move it in 360 degrees if it slips in any direction the hook needs to be sharpened.

You are correct Jeremy. Sharpe hooks a must. And herring further north is appropriate.
Iโ€™ve always used anchovy from Moss landing up to the Bay Area though. Seems Iโ€™ve always had better luck with them. But sometimes trolling a squid works also. Right place right time helps to. You just never know.

I have never used Squid but heard about someone else using them. I know they hooked a bunch of Lingcod in the Ocean west of Winchester with Jarheadfishingfool and I.
