Great post Dog. Thanke for sharing. Them some nice looking fish also

I totally agree with tipping the d/h’s well…I personally tip them 20% of the charter fee. A 12 hour halibut charter may cost me $400 so another $80 goes to the d/h. Just realize that many fisherpeople will not tip well (if at all?) so a nice tip goes a long way to supplement their income.

If you have a boat try trolling flasher/worm combo or red/gold Dick Nite lure…tight lines.

For sable marinade, I boil ¼ cup each sake and mirin for 20 secs, then low heat add ¼ cup miso paste & whisk til its dissolved. Turn heat back up to high and whisk in ¼ cup brown sugar til dissolved, stirring constantly. Let cool completely, add to filets or pieces in a ziploc and marinate 2-3 days. Grill or pan-sear meat-side down 3 mins, flip and sear skin side 2-3 mins, then finish for 5-10 mins in 400° oven or indirect heat on grill til it flakes. It's like candy.

How much sake should I drink?

Hi djsowards, thank you! I do go to the diversion pool to fish and take my dog to swim at afterbay off Larkin also monument hill but haven't fished there yet. I will check out places you have suggested but I do have to stay clear of poison oak, snakes don't bother me, I respect them and their space lol. I'd like try along frather river but have not found all it's oroville access points and you don't see people fishing behind Boss bgr all down to Montgomery. Happy fishing to you and thanks again.
Hi djsowards, thank you! I do go to the diversion ... (show quote)

I think that section of the River is closed to fishing since salmon spawn there….the fish hatchery is just upstream from there…you can visit the hatchery and view fish coming up the ladder. Tight lines!

Went out fishing on Humboldt Bay and caught this 26 inch halibut. In the past when I've caught CaliHalis I cut open their stomachs to see what they've been eating. Not a pleasant thing to do but I was curious. I found that 9 times out of 10 they had eaten sculpins/bullheads. So I fished for some bullheads and used for bait. They are not the easiest bait to put on hooks because of their spines on their gills. I put it on the hooks and lowered it down. Not long after I got the bite and the fish was on. My friend also caught one while jigging swimbaits. One fish was a lefty, with its eyes on left side, the other was a righty. One 24" the other 26". Fun day.

“Eureka”…the origin of this word comes from an Ancient Greek word meaning “I have found it”….which you have obviously accomplished Gina…I’m on a charter boat tomorrow (The Prowler, out of Bandon, OR.) chasing blacks and ling cod…don’t be jealous! 😎🦀🐟

Hi AngelFish…born and raised in Oroville and live in Oregon now. There are stripers, bass, catfish and more in the Feather and Sac Rivers. Check in with North Valley Tackle in Oroville to see what’s hot and what’s not. Oroville Wildlife Area has ponds holding black bass, crappie, and cats ( but also poison oak and rattle snakes! ). If you wanna get out of town head up to Bucks Lake in Plumas Co. for rainbow trout. You can catch spotted bass, largemouth bass and rainbows bank fishing Lake Oroville. Go get’em!😎🦀🐟🎣

Back in the day the rainbow limit was just 2 fish….by the way it’s Susanville😉 why not target trout over at Frenchman Lake (hiway 70 thirty minutes from Reno but still in Cali…) limit is 10! 😎🦀🐟😁

Here’s a pic of typical Frenchman rainbows. Troll with flasher/worm combo or bank fish crawlers or power bait.

Yes they usually use Jack Smelt that catch themselves right there in the bay.
