Gene, not sure what that 10' rod will do for you, if you can try one out before buying it by sitting in a chair and tossing that's what I would suggest. I have 7' rods and with no wind, 50' is almost average while sitting using 10lb braid tossing a lure or Z man jig with plastic. With wind 70' should be the norm.

Other consideration will be control of the fish when you get him to the yak. That extra 3' is something that may be hard to work with when that walleye or trout says no way is he getting in that yak.

I agree with plum bob. I do a lot of kayak fishing and a 10’ rod would be very difficult to work with. 7’ rods in a kayak are about right for me.

I like my ugly sticks. I have six of them I use them exclusively. I’ve never had any problems with them and don’t see how a more expensive rod would catch more fish. My wife tolerates me going out fishing for a few hrs whenever I want because I’m not getting into trouble and not spending a ton of money. Most of my rods are around $50-$80. If I went out and spent $300 or $400 on a rod her opinion of my hobby would probably change for the worse

I heard today that New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are easing the restrictions and allowing the use of the boat ramps. I’m not up there so let us know.
Peekskill! By the waterfront park or over by Annsville creek? I used to spend a bit of time there abouts.

Fairfield Connecticut still has a ban on the beaches. Can’t get into the sound in my town yet

Hmmm, may be I’ll give it a try. Could be it stops it from getting stuck on the bottom too!

Since the beaches and parks are open you can call me whatever you want. I see they just opened the season early too!

I’m one of the people home bound due to all the madness going on. Parks and beaches are all closed so getting out fishing is not even an option. Already broke down all my reels, cleaned, oiled and greased everything. Organized my tackle, changed my line...what now? What are you all doing to pass your time?

Get yourself a leash for your paddle and some way to secure anything you don’t want to lose. I kayak fish in the Long Island Sound which is a very large body of water. It can get pretty scary when your out a couple of miles and after fighting a fish, you look down and your paddle is gone. Some way to secure you rods and gear too is important. Velcro works well on a lot of things. I’ve tried a paddle leash on my rods but it’s a bit awkward casting like that. A good rod holder with straps should work well. Anything you don’t want to lose should be secured, can’t say that enough. I know from experience unfortunately!

Are you on the Fishbrain app. It’s not exactly reports, but people post their catches in your area. You can get a good idea from the posts of what is running
