Snagged one by the tail one time and it took a lot of pulling and a long time to get it out of the river.
Dinosaurs only count if someone teaches them to.

Looks like one of those rubber bulldog lures for Musky. I've never seen one of those before. Thanks for sharing the picture. Looks healthy, but orange is a weird color for a trout.

Agree RJ lures aside—- I can’t remember the last time I was ready to go “instantly” or for that matter the last time I “tied one on”.

This is very funny, in fact I "tied one on" last week while watching people try to dip for smelt near Lake Superior. One of the young guys that showed up did too, but he fell down the rocky bank and ended up in the stream with his waders on. He got out, but the air temp was 27, so his smelting was rather short-lived. As for the question of live bait for Crappie, I have had pretty good luck with small shiny minnows on a small jig-head and if you have access to wax-worms, they work pretty well also. Fish on!

Can't imagine why, but everyone who knows me says my wife must be a saint...and they don't even know her. Hmm.

I went out with my son on Friday and we had a marsh hawk that kept diving into the pond lookin for breakfast, it was pretty cool,

I have an eagle that frequents my trout pond for breakfast. My friends always ask, "What are you going to do about that eagle snatching your trout?" To which I reply, "That's easy...plant some extra fish".

It all depends upon the type of trout you are after and the type of water you are fishing. If it's a stream, a lake or a pond...fresh or salt water. Someone said panther martin spinners (the amazing sonic spinner) and I agree. For streams, you can't beat it. Works in ponds, too. Live bait like worms, night crawlers or minnows and leaches will likely kill the fish because they will swallow the hook, but if you are going to eat them anyway...why not? Never tried power-bait.
It's a little out of the ordinary, but I have caught many trout on a jig and twister tail...just keep it moving.

Hey, everybody, here in California, the last Saturday in April (when general stream fishing season opens) came a little earlier; we didn't have to wait until the 28th or 30th.
I went to the closest spot; my regular go to for local stream fishing. It's a 130 mile round trip for me, but hey, you do what ya gotta do. I've fished these waters, the East Branch of the Russian River that feeds into Lake Mendocino, for 20 plus years; I have it dialed in the hatchery fish that are in there.
So here's today's catch/limit; I've caught bigger and fatter fish, but these all jumped when hooked and put up a decent to good fight. I was the first one on the water, at first light, so I went to my chosen spot, where the fish tend to pool up. Got my limit in about an hour, and then turned a couple of other guys who showed up onto where the fish were and what they biting on (bait, not lures).
Home by 9:30 and will fire up the smoker tomorrow.
Hey, everybody, here in California, the last Satur... (show quote)

Michigan trout season opens last Saturday of April also. Nice Catch! I caught a couple off my dock too. I released them, no worse for the ware. The fat one was full of eggs, ready to spawn.

Absolutely 100% true. If not for my wife, I would have died at least ten thousand times. Statistically, they say a man lives longer when he has a life partner of the opposite sex. Old George says, "If you ain't lovin', you ain't livin'".

I should have called it the eye opener. All in favor, say eye. Dissenting, say ear.

The walleye opener here is May 15. I'll let you know if your suggested rig is a hit. I'm pretty confident.

I eat 'em all, barring any legal restrictions. A little vegetable oil in a pan, skinned, fillets dipped in a little shore lunch breading with a pinch of seasoned salt. YUM. They live for a long time to get big, so you may want to make sure you don't try to eat the belly meat.

Hi CBD Maybe these pictures will help you. Top is a tube jig. middle plain hook use with or w/o slip sinker bottom stand up jig head. If you look close at tube jig you'll see where tie eye come out.

Thanks Griz! I went to school on this. I would bet my bottom dollar this type of rig would kick butt on walleyes.

Went out for a few hours yesterday and had a little luck. Started out casting a Fluke and got 3 Smallmouth to commit several came up and missed the bait but got a hook in three, one so mean I couldn't hold it long enough to get a photo, it hit the deck and flopped out of the boat but these two were released alive.

Then went looking for crappie got 4 two 10" and two big girls. had them for supper last night and they were tasty.

Looks like you had a great couple hours. We call the big girls Crapisaurus up here in the UP of Michigan. Nice ones!

Gosh. There's a pier I used to fish from and also kept a small sailboat there. Parked trailer in parking lot, sailed awhile, slept in trailer then fished. Did this every weekend. Can't remember name of street. It's scary down there cause you can be on a road and it just ends in the lake. This was in the 1970's. Hopefully not all built up yet!

Sounds like a dreamy spot. Roads that end at the water are the best kind.
