A 9 ft. 7 or 8 weight rod is a lot more accurate and a better choice in open areas, a 7ft. 3 or 4 weight rod in small stream type areas works better for me. On a wide open river like the New here in WV, I like a longer rod. When fishing from a boat, either will work well. I have an 8ft. 6 weight I use when fishing in areas with sub-emergent weeds and lily pads. Depending on how much you want to spend, there a lot of good equipment out there. I'm relatively frugal (cheap), my rods are NOT the expensive types. More Walmart, garage and yard sale buys. My most expensive rod cost $72 in 1985. I have a garage sale rod that cost $5 which works as if it was custom made for me. A lesson or two at Cabelas or a Pro bass Shop might help too.
True story. We were double dating with a friend and his date. I complimented my date on how nice she looked, at which time the other girl said to my friend, " Why don't you say nice things like that to me?". My friend said, "Rita baby, for a fat girl you don' sweat much". Rita weighed at most 115# at 5'5". They are still married after 55 years.

Fave military officer/enlisted man story.
Officer is chewing out an enlisted man. Enlistedman replies to officer, "You are a real A..H...". The officer stops the chewing and informs the kid, "You can't say that to an officer, you must respect the rank. You can think whatever you want, but you can not say that". The elistedman replied, "Ok, Sir. I think you are an A..H...".
Good afternoon. (2pm here) Worked at shop and at a vet shop till 1:30. Plenty warm, but not as hot as yesterday. I am going to sleep in tomorrow morning, and do the best I can do to goof off all day.
Wife and I went to a party at the time when Trival Pursuit was the fad game. The women, all nurses, decided to play themselves against the men. My turn came, and I ran the board, winning for the men. One of the gals turned to Marsha and said, "Boy, your husband is really smart." My wife said, "He's not all that smart, he just reads a lot".

Looks as if that guy might win a "Darwin Award". If he was actually trying to catch a fish using that technique, he didn't have the right equipment at hand. Good way to lose a hand or finger.
The aircraft is a B-17, "Memphis Belle". It is on display at the USAF museum in Dayton. The first such to complete 25 missions in WW2.. One of her waist gunners went back to England and flew 38 more missions in B-17s. Having spent many years in the USAF, I stop at the museum whenever I am close to Dayton. Two of the aircraft that I flew in are there. The B-36 and an A1H, Skyraider. I also flew a F-4J. When we transitioned to F-16s, I knew it was time to fly a desk.
Best friends wife went to my dad for golf lessons, She was amply endowed, and couldn't decide to put her arms over or under the protrusions. She gave up golf and took up pottery making.
Boy and girls, are lucky to survive to adulthood. But, I would rather have a kid fall out of a tree and break an arm, than to have them be 80 and say I wish I had climbed that tree in the front yard. Plus, think of the stories you can tell on them to get even for the things they put you through while they were growing up. That is one of the things that makes being a Grandfather so much fun.
