Sorry, been using the same Daiwa Silver Series 1000C reel since the late 70's, but they don't seem to make them anymore.

I see now they're considered "Vintage". Not sure what that makes me....
I also have my Dad's 700C, (1980's) but it's too small, in my opinion. It's a bit lighter, but doesn't cast as far, and everything's just too tiny for my hands.

I don’t know how close it is to you but Quail Lake at the top of the grapevine just off I-5 is free. I caught many stripers and channel cats there when I lived up there.

Yep, it's free (along with the aqueduct on both sides of the Grapevine. No boats allowed as it's just part of the state water project, not a recreation area. You can fish at night too, but it gets really cold in the winter.... well, cold for Southern California...
I used to bring a very long handled net and catch threadfin shad for bait.

If you go please report back I have not been there for at least 20 plus years.
It’s a drive for me pulling the pontoon but would like to fish it again.
If they stocked trout fish by the marina area plus the stripers usually come in to the area also. You boat or shore fishing.

Same here. Had many a fun time 30 years ago watching stripers attack stocked trout and occasionally my pencil popper. My boat's easy to tow but I live 175 miles away now, so San Luis is much closer. Good luck if you go.

When I lived in LA (almost 20 years ago), the West Fork San Gabriel River was maintained as a catch and release, fly-fishing only river. I believe it still is. Watch out for snakes when you're wading-- I've seen 2 rattlers in the East Fork of that river.

My 14 year old daughter got a text claiming to be from Wells Fargo asking if she approved a money transfer to a Larry someone. We knew it was a scam (we checked her account NOT using the text's link), and unfortunately some people fell for it as it was in the news a couple days later.
I remind my kids and older relatives to never click on a link or call back a # unless you've requested it or found it yourself.

If I'd never been in the military, I very likely would have never seen a Jawa, or even known that it's a motorcycle.

Here's a couple of more brands that I don't think I've seen mentioned: De Lorean, Moto Guzzi, Saab, Bricklin, and Alva. A friend had an Alva, it was a sports car and I've never seen another one. Any of you wizards know where they were made?
Many of us here on the Stage have been in the mili... (show quote)

Alva sounded British to me so I googled it and up came Elva, with an "E". They were lightweight sports and racing cars with under 2 liter engines--except for the McLaren version with your choice of Chevy, Ford or Oldsmobile V8 power!

We had 2 Pintos when I was a teen. I took my driver's test in Mom's wood- grain paneled Pinto wagon!

Add me to the list of those that cancelled Facebook. It's been 10 years now and I don't miss it. If a business only has online info on a Facebook page, instead of a website, then I find a different business.

A short rod can be strapped to a backpack (well, back when backpacks had external frames) to keep your hands free for hiking/climbing, or can be easily strapped to a bicycle or motorcycle. And like others have said, it's better for really brushy, overgrown shorelines.

This is always my "go to" for a quick camp meal for the past 40 years, and it's good with any beer! (The mini raviolis heat up faster if you're using a tiny stove or small fire, and need to save fuel, btw.)
Thanks everyone for the beer batter recipes. Can't wait to try some.

My aluminum 17' Lowe came with a Karavan trailer that does the job, but came with skinny "safety" cables, already rusting bolt holes and rust on other spots that the paint didn't reach, and no good place to mount a basic transom saver.
Lowe probably used the cheapest trailer available that would work for a lightweight freshwater boat. Karavan probably makes a better model for bigger boats.
The swing tongue works great, tho.

Boat.
Looking AND floating on water is even better than just looking at it. I do like wading and fishing a lot too, but it's difficult to nap.

I have a 2021 Lowe and it came with half vinyl flooring. I absolutely love it. Blood and slime wash right off, snag proof and slip resistant, and feels good on bare feet (we use the boat for tubing too).
But the front deck and storage compartment are carpeted and are difficult to dry this time of year. I'm fighting some mold in a storage compartment right now. I wish they had just left it bare aluminum like the battery box. I'll probably rip the carpet out and trash it.
The vinyl looks easy to install and work with. Lowe uses stainless screws and panel washers for the vinyl it looks great.
