On another note. I noticed you mentioned standing on it. I can do that with my Wilderness Systems Ride which is pretty stable at 39 inches wide and pontoon style bottom. Of course not a windy day for me. One of the Kayak lines that was designed to sit or stand on is the Bonafide. You should check them out. Luther Cipher a fellow Virginian and also the owner of YakAttack started Bonafide and standing was a key factor in its development. Check it out!

Hi there. You should checkout whatever Kayak or Sports shops are in your area. Sometimes they offer “Demo days “ where you can go out and actually try different models. Appomattox River Company here in Virginia does that once or twice a year and I have heard where they will sometimes do that with a singular purchaser. They drop in different models and you can get a real feel before dropping the cash on one. I have been Kayak fishing for about 20 years. I have caught just as many fish in my first $180 Victory Blast sit-in as I have from my $1000 Wilderness Systems 115 Ride Sit-On. One of the first things to think of is how are you going to transport it. Do you have a sedan with a roof rack or an SUV which of course is even higher making it more work to lift to get on top. Do you have a pickup truck which is easier than the other two ? Or maybe thinking a trailer? Though you may fish with a friend or two, there may be times your by yourself. My 9 1/2 foot Perception Swifty Sit-in is about 39 pounds. Fairly simple to lift yourself onto a roof rack. My 115 Ride however is close to 80 pounds bone dry. A considerable difference especially after a long day on the water. How big are you ( height and weight are a consideration). I can’t say enough about a good seat with a high enough backrest. Especially with Sit-Ins because once your in the water you can’t and shouldn’t (for safety reasons) be moving all around in it. Today’s sit-Ons come with a lot of adjustability and with a Sit-On you are offered more freedom of movement. The only way to know is to sit in or on and try. Even then you’ll never know because you’re not going spend hours seated until after you buy it. $1000 can get you a lot of kayak and accessories. Rod holders, gear tracks for mounting depth finders and other things. Peddle vs. Paddle. Well of course there is the price difference. You’d be hard pressed to find one in that price range. Even used. That is my next thought. Once you’ve narrowed down your search on what you think might work for you. Look online or with friends for a used kayak. You can reap a good deal a lot of times because people tend to throw in the extras like paddle, PFD’s depth finders etc. I hope I was of some help with this. Whatever you get, I know you’ll get enormous satisfaction entering into the realm of Kayak Fishing! Good luck and let us know how you make out

I didn’t use fluorocarbon leader material until good friend turned me on to it along with the Crazy Alberto knot attaching it to braid. For me there was a noticeable difference in hooking more fish with Flouro. I then decided to spool on all Fluorocarbon on a spinning reel to cut out having to add a leader. Now maybe I didn’t give it enough time but the reel started getting all tangled up sometimes. The time spent untangling the reel was probably equal to adding a leader so I gave up. Someone else also offered that at the expense of Flouro it wasn’t necessarily cost effective. I’d rather just tie on leader to my main line.

Man I miss those days of surf fishing back in NJ. From Strathmere all the way down to Cape May.

I use a Aqua Bound Manta Ray 150 which is now owned by Bending Branches. My wife has a Bending Branches Navigator. Both are quality paddles.

We were going to buy one recently. Some videos made it look so easy so I think I may give one a try. The question is cordless or corded. I guess one advantage to cordless is it would be easier to clean fish outside depending on where you want to do it.
