Our society does not support that mindset unfortunately.
The one response where the kid said he couldn't pitch and dad smacked him cause he was "looking for trouble" gave me hope that there are still "good" parents out there.

I know exactly the dilemma you are in. I was looking at the Helix 10 &12. I bought the 10 & now wish I had bought the 12. If you're a youngster the smaller screen might be fine. Old eyes need all the help they can get, go for the larger size. I can say that after a year I haven't seen a locator I like better. I personally haven't decided the live scope is ethical. It's really not fishing anymore in way. Just my personal opinion. Tight lines.

Too funny- there is a thread on another website I frequent re: exactly that - Livescope ethical?
I like to see the weed break, the contour/depth change, rock piles etc.
That's already enough. There are those who argue you still have to catch them and that is true but in my opinion, that's a LOT of help -

Thank you for your help guys, I have a small 3inch screen on my dash by my Sterling wheel going to put one up in front .
Which brand are you guys using? I've looked at alot of them every year they are emproveing? Don't want to go over 700.00.!!
Well to ideas!!
Thanks Andy Cacciatori
Good fishing 🎣 where ever you are!!

I like the Humminbird because that's what I started out with and have Lakemaster cards for MN, Wisconsin, and canada so kind of invested in this equipment right now. They work for me, i understand them and life is good. I know folks who have Garmin and Lowrance and love theirs too so I think it really boils down to features you want and pricepoint - not sure you can really go wrong

It doesn't look like fishing season is near today.

Seriously, 12" last nite in Southern MN!?!?!
I live in the Mpls/St PAul suburbs and we only got three.
45 tomorrow
53 Thursday
54 Friday 60 Sat /Sun and nothing less than 55 for the foreseeable future after that.
Not even bothering to shovel.

I see a trip to river soon until the lakes are completely ice free. Pretty much everything's in season all the time on the river :)

Honestly, you're not watching television - personally if a 1" difference hits your price break it would not matter to THIS fisherman whether it was 8 or 9

I should have clarified the boat came with a 9" and a little, like 4" one. THat worked fine for me. Got me where I was going, showed me what I was looking for and let my brain and arm do the rest of the work.
The 12"was a "gift" from the brother in law. I would have purchased another 9" for the dash otherwise.

My two cents

All,

I am trying to decide if the 1" larger screen size is worth the $200 difference in cost. Any one made a similar decision and if so, what was your reasoning? I can't decide if I'm being a cheapskate or cost efficient shopper.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

I will not be much help as I can't pull mine up and go thru the commands but I don't think there is anything wrong it's just that you've got to go through the settings. This happened to me last summer and it took some fiddling out on the boat, going through the various controls ( you might even go back in and "restore to default" ) I don't believe that will erase your waypoints but you can make a quick copy on an SD card if you are worried.
Someone else on here will have the direct answer. I have all of these settings highlighted in my owner's manual

I coached little league baseball for 9 years and if you were a lefty you got a lot of attention from me. I turned 3 lefties into real good pitchers over the years and two ended up getting full rides to college. There is nothing like a left handed pitcher in baseball. With enough time and instruction most lefties can be made into a pitcher. When they are young they seem to have so much more power than right handers. Top college coaches drool when they find a good left hander to recruit. What a terrible waste for a teacher to try to turn a kid into a right hander in school but they did.

I second that- ran the baseball program from in-house, traveling and Legion for 6 years and coached for 14.
Lefties were always in demand

I started kindergarten in September of '45 and the lefties were told NO way. My brother started 3 years later and he was allowed , same school and teacher.

Lefties were frowned upon because the Latin word for left is sinistra from which we got the word 'sinister'. That was the reason in a nutshell.

My best friend and I are both lefties.
We used those big pencils, the kind that were as big around as your finger and being a lefty you ALWAYS dragged your arm over the pencil and it smeared and certain teachers made you redo the work so it was "neater" ( same thing when you went up to write on the chalkboard, your palm would drag against the chalk and smear it.

Deeply appreciative of that my good sir!!
( unfortunately for my parents small town newspapers have a "local" section where they go to find out about who was in trouble in town - I don't think I slid under the radar :) )

Did you ever get Hacks in school? I did, it was 1952 in my Health class, back when schools were good. I and a friend of mine were grabassing around in class before our teacher got there. When Mr. Pfaff got there and caught us, he informed Kenny and myself that we each were going to get a hack in front of the class. Mr Pfaff first started on psychology, talking about his special paddle and how much it hurt. He indeed did have a special paddle. It was a wooden paddle about 4"-5" wide, 3/4" thick and 18"-24" long and narrowed down on one end for the handle. The most notable thing about it was the holes that were drilled in it and that he emphasized. He said those holes made the paddle have less wind resistance and therefore higher velocity. He said his unique scientific method caused more pain than a regular paddling. Here is the method he described. First his upward high velocity swing, because of the holes, caused the Butt to lift up at impact which was very painful, then Gravity stepped in and snapped the butt back down for the final impart of pain. The class (boys and girls) got a good laugh out of the whole thing, and it was very painful. For about 40 years I had the pencil lead mark in my forearm where Kenny stabbed me with his pencil, LOL.

Honest to G-D you must have had the same teacher I had. People don't believe me when I tell them that. New paddle about every other week. I think he really enjoyed that!

Locally, I do not lock either the boat trailer or the the hitch. Always take the trolling motor off and store inside locked pickup bed - why advertise?
When I go out of town and over the weekend I lock the trailer hitch and the receiver hitch. Defeats only the "opportunist" granted but its one less easy score for someone. I always try to back down the bank or against the curb/tree to make it less easy/attractive to steal
