All,

I am trying to decide if the 1" larger screen size is worth the $200 difference in cost. Any one made a similar decision and if so, what was your reasoning? I can't decide if I'm being a cheapskate or cost efficient shopper.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

There are closeout bargains to be found right now, on the 3major brands. BPS /CABELAS has some very good deals. Sale ends the 31st.

I have a little Garmin Striker. A bigger screen would be nice. Maybe look at the power consumption. Not sure if the one inch makes a difference.

It's been my experience that a big sale means in two months they are going to come out with something new you wish you had on the one you just bought!

I looked at the seven ended up with a nine. So much easier on my eyes. Especially when you do a split screen with contour of lake.

Thanks for the insight. I had not thought about what it would look like with the split screen. And my eyes aren't getting younger.

Actually Steve, the new ones are out already. But if money is factor, it's a way to get more for your limited $.
Here's an example -Lowrance Elite 12"TrippleShot,was $1995.99, closeout @$949.99.
In my cheapskate book thats $1050.00 I can spend on other stuff.

IMHO
I have a 12" inch and a 9"
Honestly, you're not watching television - personally if a 1" difference hits your price break it would not matter to THIS fisherman whether it was 8 or 9

I should have clarified the boat came with a 9" and a little, like 4" one. THat worked fine for me. Got me where I was going, showed me what I was looking for and let my brain and arm do the rest of the work.
The 12"was a "gift" from the brother in law. I would have purchased another 9" for the dash otherwise.

My two cents

I like the Humminbird because that's what I started out with and have Lakemaster cards for MN, Wisconsin, and canada so kind of invested in this equipment right now. They work for me, i understand them and life is good. I know folks who have Garmin and Lowrance and love theirs too so I think it really boils down to features you want and pricepoint - not sure you can really go wrong

I know exactly the dilemma you are in. I was looking at the Helix 10 &12. I bought the 10 & now wish I had bought the 12. If you're a youngster the smaller screen might be fine. Old eyes need all the help they can get, go for the larger size. I can say that after a year I haven't seen a locator I like better. I personally haven't decided the live scope is ethical. It's really not fishing anymore in way. Just my personal opinion. Tight lines.

Too funny- there is a thread on another website I frequent re: exactly that - Livescope ethical?
I like to see the weed break, the contour/depth change, rock piles etc.
That's already enough. There are those who argue you still have to catch them and that is true but in my opinion, that's a LOT of help -
