My Florida girlfriend just straightened me out. It’s not
“ Matt-lack-ah”.

It’s pronounced “Matt-lah- shay”

Lol

She says it’s a wonderful fishing area, she says use live shrimp for anything or for sea trout, try bright green jigs, or white or root beer color.

“ Matt- la-shay”. Lol

It says “ reply”, “ quote reply”, “Report issue”, and “quick reply”.
After that joke, I think I need to report an issue. Lol

Yes, this was an interesting summer at the boat ramps. A lot of worn out boats being pulled by youngsters that needed some help here and there. Looked like all the new boaters were just sitting on their boats drinking, Same number of fisherman as usual

They sell a good map called “ fishing hot spots. “
When I was there for my sons wedding, 2016,my daughter and some of the other kids rented a boat to go fishing and needed me to drive the boat. They werent old enough at the time( under25), and it was free boat ride for me, so I paid for bait and bought the hotspot map

And it worked!

Wow. Flashback. 1982. I was 19 years old. Just completed my freshman year of college. I had just started working a summer job and had four weeks of pay. My parents were against it, my uncle said I was being goofy, my older brothers didn’t understand , my friends said that would be typical of me to do something crazy like that... to go blow all my money on a boat. My dad ( WW2 coast guard ) and I went and looked at one , he said he would not loan me any money to buy one, so not sure why we even went and looked at that one , except it was only a couple miles away and parked in the yard.

So yeah, I had 400 dollars, maybe 410 dollars total, and found an old red white and blue with mahogany boat , old, but a classic, the guy was asking 550 for. 1958 16’ whirlwind runabout, wooden. With 40 hp Evinrude on a rusty trailer with dry rotted tires. I said 400 was all I had. He said ok, but he was keeping the battery.
So I borrowed 30 bucks from my mom, and bought a battery and took it to the nearest lake.

That evening was great, two buddies and my older brother and I cruising on the local reservoir, drinking beer , i was like King Kong!!

Oh yeah, quit my job next morning. Didn’t make it. Lol

That weekend we went back to the ramp, same small Maryland reservoir, and there was a line of sail boats and row boats. A guy walked up and said, “ you know they require a reservoir stamp/sticker on your boat”.
Huh?

“Oh, and also, they don’t allow gas engines on this lake”.

Lol

So yeah , go get your boat. Don’t listen to anybody else’s advice, if your 18 and you want to own a boat, you will. You are young and resilient and will figure it out as you go along.
I’m 57 now, own a great waterfront property in FL, have had several boats, have always had a boat , right now own a brand new Key West and a nice row boat. Go for it. I DARE YOU!

4 years ago I bought my girlfriend a medium penny spinning reel on a lightweight Crowder rod at the fishing shop in Melbourne FL. She is very experienced FL boat owning fish catching bikini wearing tanned up old FL girl and catches the fish and best fish chef ever so when she asked for a gold penn from her old boy friend and he had it shipped in a 6”box , she broke up with him. Lol. So that was her test for me , did I know what a good “Penn” was and I passed. After almost five years, she has caught the fish and I have operated the net on at least 100 fish all over the place in her boat. Well her boat and mine. Our boat. Her Crowder rod. Buy a Crowder rod you won’t regret it.

Don’t hang your favorite lure on your rear view mirror.

That’s what hooked my ring finger. It went in deep into my finger and the point was heade toward my fingernail.

I tried everything to get it out.

Lol. To the hospital. Numbed my hand. Surgically removed.

Don’t hang your favorite lure in your rear view mirror.

Have a great weekend !!!

Welcome to FL. Get a bubbling bait bucket, use live shrimp, you will need a heavy mono leader. Fish in FL have sharper teeth.
Cast as far out as you can, watch the tides and when the wind shifts and is coming from the west, the waves lay flat and take the day off work.
I lived on the beach for a year near the cape and learned a lot by looking out my window and watching when the guys all showed up. Before daybreak is a good time but I think the winds from the west calms the surf and that was the variable to watch for the best fishing time.

Regular worms or night crawlers , when put on a hook then cast into SALTY water , just sort of flop. Their membranes just deteriorate within seconds.
Bloodworms do just fine in salty water. And they have actual blood that attracts the fish. When you pierce them with the hook, blood squirts out. And they have a proBiscuis. (SP). Like a leach. Maybe they are. They look like worms but definitely look different from night crawlers.
My understanding is that they are harvested along the coastline of Maine then shipped to Long Island New Jersey Delaware, MD , VA NC. They are great bait for perch, eel, spot, rockfish. Crabs steal them. I like them as long as they are big. Too often I buy them and they are puny. This year, it’s been great, all the ones I have bought were big as a night crawler....like they should be. But yeah , like a divorce, they are expensive. Know why they are expensive??? Because it was worth it!!
