I noticed that the bight in my area of travel have been lower this year. Small mouth , large mouth and even cats and carp. I've also noticed more fishing people on the water . ( I would call most of them novice or beginners ) . a lot of boaters and jet ski people also. I'm assuming (you know what that means ) because of the extra pressure and displacement of water that it chased them in areas I couldn't bank fish. Has anyone else noticed this or am I just nuts ?? ( I already know I'm nuts don't respond to that part )
Well sir, I'm on the other side of the country, but I have not caught a single fish since last December. But I do know people who have, so maybe it's just the two of us? Hasn't made me not go fishin.
Usually I'll go out and catch what I'm searching for . But my haul has been a lot lower and size has been up and down. One day I'll catch one decent one and the next I'll catch 4 or 5 dinks.
Bass? I mostly fish for trout, but I've been kinda limited on where and how often I could go due to the virus and a bad back. No trout this year.
It was the same here, lakes I normally fish on any given day would usually have 3-5 boats out. This year boat launches were backed up,canoe & kayaks were a lot more abundant, so I think the added pressure had something to do w it

I would have to agree Rob. Definitely seen an increase in the "Pleasure boaters " and jetskis,. You can tell they are new, at the boat ramp. LOL
I’ve got a buddy here that owns a small sport shop an indoor archery range. Even with the virus he’ had his best financial year ever. He said a lot of guys that previously hunted and fished are now getting back into it and buying new equipment, his problem though is getting new inventory.

FF,
So as not to embarrass myself, I practiced backing up a trailer in my PASTURE.😂😎😵
Yes, this was an interesting summer at the boat ramps. A lot of worn out boats being pulled by youngsters that needed some help here and there. Looked like all the new boaters were just sitting on their boats drinking, Same number of fisherman as usual

I've noticed the same trend here on Tim's Ford smaller fish and fewer bites a lot more pleasure boats. I'm finding myself casting away from the bank and catching fish in open water. Seems to me the bass here are using the baitfish more as structure. They hang around them in open water i'm seeing a lot of this on the depth finder so I've been changing the way I fish using a deep diving crank, casting around bait balls to capture many of the fish I caught this year.
I usually Fish off shore open water for this very reason.

I haven't noticed alot of traffic on my ponds/lakes but i fish from the banks and i don't go out on weekends, but i have noticed the bite has been slow all season, maybe the local government put masks on the fish too

I found one thing for sure this year. Any water regulated by a dam was very inconsistent. The dams were not running like usual because of everything that’s goin on this year. Water temps were fluctuating too much and the fishing for predator fish was all screwed up. Less than 1/2 the anglers participated this year in the program I’m involved in and the catch was a fraction of last year. I only caught 600 fish and my average is over 1000. The top anglers had the same luck. It wasn’t a good year and they even extended the season and offered more money per fish and doubled the money on tagged fish. We still didn’t go back because more money don’t mean much if you don’t catch fish. Hopefully better luck next year.

Smart move!
Once you understand a little adjustment goes a long way it is pretty easy

Hey Hooker, when I got my first trailer I went to the nearby school parking lot, after hours, with 4 5gallon buckets. Practiced approaching from different directions, and distances from the "ramp". That was 40 years ago. You still have a bad day once and a while, but probably average 3-5 minutes to launch, and maybe 7-10 to haul out.
