80 meters of 8# fluoro, that's the max printed on the spool. 20 pound braid will sit right on there no problem.
Can somebody tell me what's up with the side opposite the crank? What is that? What's its purpose? I've never seen that on a reel, or a reel like that.

They're called Rod Sox, most tackle stores cary them. Online stores too.

I am with Fred and Grizz, the spools will also keep dust and bugs out. Those look very well cared for, so maintaining them ought to be easy. Some of the rods even have little jackets on them to keep them warm in the Winter…nice touch 😂

One of my Bass fishing partner went down to Clear Lake last week with some of his family. He said they had a great time and sent me a couple pictures today. Told me 6’ deep and a crappie jig under a bobber & a ripping crank bait for the bass. Told me the got 30/40 bass and a bunch of Crappie. Sure sounded like fun, I’ve never been there but looks fishy to me!😁
