I never heard of this technique. Is it common in certain areas? Is it legal? When, where, and how is it used? Give me a short briefing - I'm curious.
Speaking of aliases, in north Louisiana I often heard them referred to as cypress trout and sometimes I believe I heard the name chou-pic, but I'm not sure about that. The most common name we used for them was grennel (sp.?}.

That appears to be a gasper gou - sometimes called a fresh water drum. Don't know where this is from, but they're fairly common in the South. And yes they fight. Edible but not real high on the chart.
