Going there tomorrow. Good time of year to be there water temperature is dropping and the fish will be active. I'm going for trout my son-in-law is going for Pike. There have been several pipe caught in the last 10 days close to and over 40 inches. Average trout over 20.
Will get there about 2:00 in the afternoon and fish until dark. Then back on the lake at dawn. We'll fish until noon or the wind blows us off.

Good luck. Most there fish with fly rods......gonna get some dirty looks especially close to the dam. Thinking you would do better on the Roaring Fork if you can find access. Try right in town (Glenwood Springs) at the 9th st Bridge.

I like Antero too , one of my favorites. I would like to fish elevan mile , not sure where the good places are there.

The best way to learn a new lake is to fish it. Coves and the inlet is where I would start. When I make the 90 mile drive I prefer Spinney over Eleven mile. Bigger fish because of the regulations there. You can keep one over 20" but I always release all Rainbows and Browns. I cull the pike.

The county road in there is terrible.....pot holes bad enough to pop a tire. I hate taking my boat through that mess. I have heard that the county finally did some work on it.

Chatfield is 5 minutes from the house and should start picking up again soon. Tons of fish there but hard to catch if you don't know how to catch them. Crowds are terrible. Fish at night or go early and leave early. Ya gotta know how to work the boat ramps or you are gonna be frustrated.

On another note. I checked the conditions at Spinney and Eleven Mile a couple of days ago and the water temp is crazy warm this year. High 60's! Way to warm for trout to be active......fish early and get home. Fishing shoud return to normal in a couple of weeks once it cools down a bit.

Have a good day.....Putembk

In the last 40 years I have taken so many pictures my wife says they all look alike. Fishing with a spinning rod out of a boat.....not my cup of tea.....give me a 6wt and a belly boat and I am most at home on that lake. All trout go back unharmed....all pike are dead. Always putembk.

Going up to spinny mountain in a couple of weeks. First time up there this year for me as I have been fishing chatfield reservoir. I used to fish this reservoir all the time in its heyday.

Just recently sold my cabin in Grand county and I'm going to concentrate on South Park again. Son-in-law is coming with me and he's a pike fisherman I'm going for trout. Should be a good time.

New to this site and it is good to see some catch and release fishermen here. My license plate and e-mail are both putembk.(put em bk) Like mentioned earlier I try and never touch a trout. Barbless hook and try and never take a fish out of the water. But, sometimes you just have to get a quick picture. Trout are not like most fish....they die easy.

That is why I only fish in catch and release areas. I am with like minded people that mostly know what they are doing.

Colorado rivers have been decimated by over harvesting and under funding to the point that I have gone to boat fishing near the house.

Fishing here stared going down hill in the 80's with the onset of whirling disease and today many rivers are way to warm to sustain a healthy fishery.

Give me a 3wt rod 6x tippet and a dry fly and I am where I want to be. Hard to find a good place to go these days.

Today you will find me at Chatfield Res, Spinney or Eleven Mile riding in the boat dreaming of days on the river.
