We had a few years when there were some very big blues off the Virginia coast. Here's one I caught that weighed 19 pounds.

Looks quite edible andys, good to see the larger bluefish coming back, the last few years it’s been pretty slim pickings along the Jersey coast.

I'm sorry! I didn't saywhere they were caught. That report is from my brother In-law in FL. Where we use to live. OH yes I did say FL. Beach Fishing for this report. Thanks!

4/24/24 Don had a good time on the beach yesterday.---------
Fished the villa beach today...(Wednesday)
I started out fishing a DOA shrimp and caught two small flounder...only took picture of one.
Around 10:00 I hooked up withi a bluefish on my deadsticking rod fishing a fresh whiting strip.
I saw it in the trough but it bit through my leader....it was around 10 pounds.
A little while later the rod I was freelining a live pinfish went down hard. It was another bluefish and I landed this one.
High tide wasn't until 1:48 and the fish started biting around then and I caught a couple more black drum. One was only 13 inches and the other was almost 16. I also had my rod bend down hard again on the rod freeling a pinfish but the hook didn't set.
I also included pictures of the black drum in the skillet. Terri also put a couple pieces of redfish in the skillet. Neither of us could tell the difference between the black drum and the redfish. they were both delicious.

There are many huge blues out there. They do not stay with the smaller fish. Often say near a particular structure. You catch one, there’s more, and maybe for several days.

Don can't go out there. He don't have a boat. He fished from the beach. Thanks!

I caught some bluefish in Chesapeake Bay in the early '70s that looked about like that. I believe the locals called them "chopper blues". Great fish.

Yes it was loaded with bluefish back then. That is our Daughter on the picture. She is in her 50's now. Yep, chopper blues.

4/23/24 Beach fishing report from my Brother In-Law Don.------- I fished the villa beach today...(Tuesday)
The waves from the high winds Monday created a sand bar change in front of the villa beach.
I tried for flounder with DOA shrimp and had no luck.
I dead sticked a pin fish strip and caught this 9 pound bluefish.
I also caught a 15 1/2 inch black drum dead sticking a sand flea.
I was getting ready to stop fishing but made a few casts with a one inch white bucktail tipped with a sand flea and was bouncing it off the bottom hoping for a pompano.
I was only 3 feet from shore and this redfish took the lure/sandflea.
I quickly pulled it up in the wash and drug it up on the beach when the hook came out.
I immediatley got on my knees in front of the fish to keep it from going back in the water.
A big wave came in and covered the fish and I thought I was going to loose it but fortunatley it didnt get past me and I was able to shove it up the beach away from the wash. I had my rod in my other hand the whole time so I could only push the fish with my left hand. I got lucky this time and was able to land this 19 1/2 inch beauty.

The White perch are just a week or 2 away from moving into their haunts fully for the summer Andy. We got 8 nice spawned out females on The Little Choptank Friday. I think those fish don't move too far to spawn and move into their summer areas.

Yes it is close for me. I will start WP fishing first week of May. Thanks Rob.

Nice job Andy. I've been hooked on stick worms for a couple years but I'll have to revisit the ribbon tails.

Try these if you can find them.

I don't know what kind of fish bites Don Uses. I do know he uses a home made doubble botton rig with #4 Circle hooks.

4/15/24 Beach fishing in FL. From Brother In-law..--I walked along the villa beach this morning towards the jetty but I didn't get to Venice beach before I turned around and headed back to the villas.
I was using a DOA shrimp in hopes of finding the trout but never did.
I caught 3 ladyfish and at least 4 flounder....none of which were over 13 inches.
I've caught at least 11 flounder in the last two days but only kept one....and it was only 14 1/2 inches long.
I can't believe how expensive DOA shrimp are at Publix.
The picture I took of the fourth flounder didn't turn out for some reason so I could only send you pictures of 3 of them....they all look the same. I couldn't believe I didn't hook up with one flounder that was at least 14 inches. I would love to get an 19 incher...I know they are out there. As long as the water is calm I'll keep walking along the beach looking for the trout.
