Welcome to the stage Varmiter. Your gonna meet a lot of great ppl here, a few knuckleheads (I'm one) and some others. Keep a thick skin, and dint take any rude replies personally ; ). When responding to a particular reply, if you tap the "quote rely" button at the bottom of the white text box, we ll know whom you're replying to.

Are you able to fish the Kerns rivers? It's been decades for me but oh what fond memories!

Thank you for your service! There's lots of us vets o. Here. I'm 8yrs USN. Got out in 93. Most of those yrs were in San Dog, the armpit of the US!

Hey TM. I don't keep a written record but we do keep a mental one.
We've been fishin there so long we try to always pay attention to the tides. They are everything. So when we go out it usually is always the same tide. Otherwise we go out with the wrong tide not expecting to catch very many fish cause we have to fish different spots.

We have the TN River that is a tremendous striper fishery. I'm a bank fisher which really limits my search options. That has lead to having a very difficult time unlocking the code of catching often. Idk if you know this, but you're setting a pretty high bar on the striper catch rate! Keep it up!

Steve, do you keep record of your catches? Environmental conditions? Water flow? Etc? The time of day is a rough guideline but so many other factors in play as well. Great catching and fishing day! I'm glad you had a pal with you.

Part of the puzzle of catching is putting the pcs together. Red hooks, match the hatch, mimic the injured, and scent trail are a few but not all the pcs. My go to is a squirt of the water displacement compound, occasionally. Scents do work

Was there a breeze to keep it pleasant?

Still better than mowing the yard.

Nice catch! What kinda pole? What size line? What target fish? WhT bait? What brand of cigar? Was it lit or a chew stick? Water temp? Clarity? Time of day? Where was the sun?
I ask in earnest for when I go this weekend. Tight lines

Hey folks. I've been casually looking for a scope for the yak. Lots to choose from. I leaning towards a handheld with 45` cone. Ease of use and i can stow it easily. Always will be inland and in >40ft water. I know we have several yakers on here and would love to here their personal reviews instead of the sales pitch.
I came across this image on the screen of one and it strikes me as man-made. When I enlarged it, it appears to have a person standing in the center looking to the right at something being held in its hand. With legs even! While on the left side it looks like there's a person with a tail kneeling?
Take a look and let me know if I need professional help lol

The state if AL put the bat on the States protected list. Even tho it doest qualify for the Natl list. That's what irks me. It would be that same as putting the yellow barred perch on the list because a small self sustaining population was found in the TN River but is found abundantly thru out the northern states.
Or saying the Paw Paw tree is protected here due to the low numbers found here but is weed like in neighboring states.
Why?

Thank you for that insight. But...that doesn't really address the topic.

Just a little rant over the crap that our bureaucracy does....

Here in NW AL, there's a very small state historical park. Because the state TOOK possession of it. There is no harvesting of any kind, including mushrooms! But that is not my rant.
There is a cave system, small, very small, that is iron barred to prevent the Gen pop from entering. The reason? The Indiana Bat. Seems this bat is on the protected list here in AL! After some research on my part, the bat was put on the list when the population dropped to 3 MILLION! The estimated population from the last survey conducted in 18 puts the population at 6M. The range of this bat includes at a minimum of 7 states with an overall population of over 25 million. SMH . But...because of the protection status in effect (and always will be) the area is still considered off limits with Federal FELONY prosecution as the deterant. Just boils my blood that the powers in charge pull this crap, all the time, everywhere.
I know most ppl really don't have an opinion on this particular subject, until they learn they CANT do what they want bcs of the bs.

Thanks for letting me rant
