I use braid and circle hooks setting the hook not required, just start reeling. Infact you have to learn not to set the hook

If you have a 6000 I would think you would have expectations of catching big fish, all my 6,000s have 80 lb braid. No problem casting and we catch some big fish

Okuma 65 Avenger Bait feeder combo 65 ( around $100)will be fine for the boat and great for the surf. Bait feeders are all I use on the boat or in the surf and I can't say enough, they grab the bait and run. Pick up the pole and start to reel it sets the hook for you.
