Going back way too many years we put red cellophane over the flashlight lens to catch nightcrawlers. Red LEDS or red filters are the way to go.
With Red Tide decimation in our area, bank fishing probably not going to be productive for catching or eating. Mid range charters (6 hour or 8) seem to be producing decent catches. Sometimes you can get on a split charter for a reduced price.
Good rule of thumb is to find deepest water next to shallows and look for shoreline structure that leads into the lake (road, tree line, hump, etc)). Other than that find the underwater channels and troll a suspended surface lure (rapala fat raps are great) near the edge of the channel.
Having participated in this conversation and appreciative of all remarks,
let's get back to fishing where we can all go freely in fresh air and peace and space. (except for opening day of trout season in NJ).
Unfortunately, the Covid19 tests only test point in time. As soon as you walk out the door you could be infected. Granted, these are slim odds but have to be considered if you will be in close contact with others. Unknown is what musical instrument you use. If it is a wind instrument, then I definitelythink you should not be permitted to participate. If something else then perhaps a mask accommodation can be made. On a personal note based on my knowledge of Guilliam-Barre, I would choose not getting infected by Covid19. I sincerely hope you get your situation resolved.
If you buy lottery tickets, eat hot dogs, bacon or char broiled burgers you should have lots more to worry about than a very rate side effect that is way less than one in a million. Now if you were female under age 40, you might worry about a one in a million blood clotting side effect that is a thousand times less than the side effects of birth control pills. COVID19 KILLS or has very long term physical and mental side effects than Guillian-Barr (???)..
Kandy's comments seem to address the issue. The unfortunate problem is with the skepticism caused by dishonest people misrepresenting themselves as vaccinated and/or protected. If the PCR and current time limits should assure others if everyone is upfront about it.
If you an find a quiet place near an overpass. Throw some light line and small baits (mussels, clam bits) out to the pilings. There might be some action with small sea bass. Used to have lots of fun when I fished in New York and New Jersey.
Seasonal fly virtually disappeared because most Americans masked, socially distanced and practiced good personal sanitizing and hygiene. No mystery, no divine intervention, no miracle. Now if those that practice mumbo jumbo and voodoo practices would do the same simple things and stop whining about being "forced" to do something that could save the lives of loved ones, we might just all be able to go fishing together very soon. A difficult situation to have. Yet you could still be a vector for spreading serious life threatening illness to others. What accommodations are you willingly to assume. Can you wear an effective mask and/or face shield in presence of others. How do you protect yourself from seasonal flu?
Do you reject all other typical vaccinations?
Long Beach Island, mid Jersey coast.
That's too bad. Fluke (Summer flounder) is one of the very best white meats fish. Baked or grilled, mouth watering goodness.
Definitely use a fish finder rig with appropriate weight sinker to hold the bottom. MR ILOVESICLAIR has given excellent advice about hook and bait size. If using more than one rod, throw different distances and sit back and relax.
