Gotta keep those rays to a minimum!

One thing I’ve also learned recently is to NEVER hold the fish, like I am in the second picture that was from close to 4 months ago. I’m sorry for all the LMBS that I’ve ever harmed in my chase to catching a 5+. 🙏

2 different fish, lateral line is much darker on 2nd bass
Nice fish & thanks for pics!!

Yeah the first picture this bass was caught in much deeper water, I’d say at least 10-15 foot of water , as to the second picture that bass was caught in probably 6-8ft of water at the most… so I’m not sure is that possibly plays a role in color/looks

I did a painting as a teenager of a bass attacking a redwing blackbird .
Painted it on a Cyprus slab about 2 ft by 3 ft.
You could almost feel the energy , Adrenalin and potential violence when looking at the painting
I won several art contests with that painting
Eventually an art professor at a nearby college gave me $60 for it for a gift for her husband.
For a teenager in the late 70s $60 was a ton of money

I feel like only a picture would do justice at this point find us a picture of it buddy I really wanna see now

You are from South Dakota so it could be a pike. Pike and musky are voracious duck and bird eaters when they get a chance.

I have seen a musky grab a coot and two times I have seen a northern grab a duckling. One of the guys I see in Canada caught a musky with a duck in it's throat (it was working it down slowly).

Thankfully there are no pike here in SD on my buddies private pond. They have never stocked pike in there thankfully

Goose/deBass: Well, more than a decade ago, there was a forest fire in Oregon, I believe it was and they were using these specially build planes to swoop down, and gather a load of water and use it do dump on the fire. Well, on one run, a huge black bass jumps up and grabs one of the wheels of the plane, jerking it sidewise to the extent the pilot almost lost control for a few seconds, which would have cause it to crash. Fortunately, he was able to correct and afte that, they switched to an alternate lake where the bass were not so aggressive or so big! Just Sayin...RJS

So today me and my buddy were out on our little boat at the pond, and bout 40 yards behinde us less then a foot from shore we jus heard a loud splash and looked and seen a black bird that was a few inches into the water , that bird barley escape death. So my question is , has anyone ever seen a bass go after blackbirds? LOL. I know they go after baby ducks and such but I’ve never heard of a black bird.
Might as well make this post interesting and ask, what’s the weirdest top water/ thing or bird or animal you’ve ever seen a bass try and snatch up real quick!?

Hey GooseDB where in South Dakota do you call home?
My three brothers and families get together each year over Labor Day week-end for a camping/fishing trip to Deerfield Lake in the beautiful Black Hills. That is our yearly get-to-gather family time with son, daughter, grandkids, niece and nephews. I missed last year due to Covid and not being able to travel.

Happycamper21, I’m actually
Born and raised in Mitchell South Dakota! Home of the worlds one and only biggest bird feeder! “A.K.A” the corn palace” located about 4-5 hours east of the black hills!
