So today me and my buddy were out on our little boat at the pond, and bout 40 yards behinde us less then a foot from shore we jus heard a loud splash and looked and seen a black bird that was a few inches into the water , that bird barley escape death. So my question is , has anyone ever seen a bass go after blackbirds? LOL. I know they go after baby ducks and such but I’ve never heard of a black bird.
Might as well make this post interesting and ask, what’s the weirdest top water/ thing or bird or animal you’ve ever seen a bass try and snatch up real quick!?
Goose/deBass: Well, more than a decade ago, there was a forest fire in Oregon, I believe it was and they were using these specially build planes to swoop down, and gather a load of water and use it do dump on the fire. Well, on one run, a huge black bass jumps up and grabs one of the wheels of the plane, jerking it sidewise to the extent the pilot almost lost control for a few seconds, which would have cause it to crash. Fortunately, he was able to correct and afte that, they switched to an alternate lake where the bass were not so aggressive or so big! Just Sayin...RJS

GDB: I don't know about the WEIRDEST thing; but, I know that if you want to put some of those Bucket-Mouths on ice; I've had good luck with the red and white Hula Popper, as well as a frog-looking Jitterbug!
I saw footage of a guy who drilled two holes on opposite corners of a cell phone to make a lure out of it…and caught a big bass. Same guy ran what looked like a leader through a dollar bill and caught a bass on that, too.

I was fishing with my brother once when we noticed these redwing blackbirds flushing out of a scrub tree on the shore, then landing back,so we eased the boat a little closer to see what was going on and sure enough when a bird got on a low enough branch here came Mr bass up at him, so bro had a black hula popper with a red spot on handy and tossed it under the tree and caught a 3 lb instantly. So yes they do. This also taught us how well a bass can see you coming, just saying

I keep SAYIN': "That Hula Popper IS a topwater Largemouth SLAYER"!!!
The Hula Popper is a classic lure. It would not be in that category if it had not been a hot fish catcher over the decades. Just Sayin...RJS
RJS... Should've picked a different STATE for your tale.
Yeah we have forest fires,
yeah we got black bass.....but they're in the OCEAN,
and we don't (actually couldn't...think about the physics) use PLANES to scoop up water for fire abatement....we use Erickson HELICOPTERS, those big orange insect-looking things...built right here in the Rogue Valley, to suck up or dip a bucket.
Planes get loaded with retardant (that pink foamy substance) at a special area of the airport.
Too many incongruities to even get a chuckle out of it from me, sorry..... mighta worked had you chosen a sturgeon, we got big ones of those, idk ?
The majority of MY fellow fisherpersons (certainly not all Oregonians, but definitely all but one of MY buddies) consider any freshwater bass to be either invasive or simply an annoyance to put up with...... but, hey........ they keep the garden healthy !
so you are saying a plane tire works?
