Thanks, sorry I was thinking of a spinning reel as i have a more experience with those. My trout reels are shimano and my trolling reels are Diawa, but have done saltwater years ago with penn.
I am just trying to improve my fishing spectrum and taking up some bass fishing. I bought 2 7’ Med Rods and 10 lb braided but am a bit confused about reels. It seems every website claims a different number one spinning reel. I would like to keep around $100 each. Any suggestions?
Survival is about forgetting that food only comes in a can or microwaveable and water doesny come in a bottle. It is amazing how much food is around us that under normal conditions we wouldn’t even consider. Case in point: we recently joined a mushroom club in Idaho and on our first foraging saw how many of the mushrooms we thought were poisonous actually could be eaten. This Spring we are going on a “eat off the land” trip where we should learn a lot more about our local area.
Especially if it came in a little olive drab can!
When I was decades younger, I spent some time in South East Asia. Learned to eat a number of critters that aren’t typically served in Idaho. Ants, crickets, spiders, snakes and lizards are all sources of protein and none of them taste like chicken.😀
Sorry, am very much a beginner at bass fishing. Is there a videonthat shows how to tie your knots?
So is it better to tie your bait/rig on directly with the braid or run a length of fluorocarbon? For bass off of rocky point what weight braid? Best knot?
Bapabear…thanks for all the great advice, it looks like a trip to the little tackle-shop is in order and then maybe a full day round trip to cabelas. Right now dealing with 3 feet of snow and -5 degree weather.
I am thinking that my little trout rods wont do the job. I read that a 7’ medium rod with a size 2500 reel loaded with 10’ braid should do the trick. Does that sound about right? Any recommendations on a rod and reel? I found a small tackle shop in a neighboring town and will travel there first to see what they have. They are on a lake known for its perch so i dont know how much bass gear they will have. Amazon has rods and reels also. Is a glass spinning rod ok?
I looked up the neko rig and jerkbaits along with yamamoto pumpkin sticks. I do have a couple of 4-10lb trout spinning rods. Will they be ok with 8lb test? Living in the mountains thete are no tackle shops other than a fly fishing shop. I see amazon has a neko kit but should i be buying from a place like bass pro?
Sorry for all the questions, but absolutely new at bass fishing.
My little fishing boat is only a 14.5 so i wasnt thinking of getting near the dam. I will look up what a Yamamoto pumpkin stick and wacky rig is. Thanks.
Thanks for the info! There is a little store near one of the Brownlee campgrounds, i will ask again there.
Thanks, any idea about colors and types of jerk baits. Will spinnig rods be ok or should i invest in casting gear?
Headed to Brownlee the week before Memorial Day to try my hand at Bass Fishing. I typically fish kokanee and trout and know very little about bass fishing. My boat does have a trolling motor but i have only used it on no engine lakes for fly fishing in late summer. Any advice on where to fish and what kind of gear to use is highly appreciated.
Good advice, next Spring when i haul the boat out of the barn and take a run at the uce out trout, i will give that a try! Thanks
