Obviously I am in the minority here.
Twice married, twice divorced, (one for 16 yrs, one for 10 yrs) don't miss either one.
They did NOT "complete me", they bullied their way with most of the important decisions (which house or vehicle to buy, where & when to vacation, etc.), spent MY money freely.... while occasionally hiding their own income, "decorated" the house to THEIR liking, ignoring the fact that I am A.S.I.D. certified as an interior designer (!) and built every wooden piece of furniture their little hearts desired.

Y'all just made better picks than me, it seems. Good on 'ya.

God, I wish I had a way to get back that 26 years (and the ~$750k in the 2 houses they got in the divorce settlements !).... the last nearly 15 years has been SO PEACEFUL, SO DRAMA-FREE AND THUS...CAREFREE*.......and hell, I shop, cook, and clean better than either one ever did in practice, or knew how to !

Hindsight IS truly 20/20....and we ain't talking about the year !

*And I eventually recovered enough to finally retire 3 yrs ago and buy that fast little rag-top sports car and all the boats and fishing gear I have room for !

No wife, very happy life !
Obviously I am in the minority here. br Twice mar... (show quote)

Sorry you lost two houses...MAYBE THERE'S A REASON WHY SOME MEN REFER TO THEM AS HOUSE-KEEPERS.

Have never seen a SPINCAST reel with the handle on the LEFT side... what brand would that be ?
Any SPINNING reel (except those really old...50yrs+) has the ability to switch the handle to either side.

Now you and everyone of FS knows how old I am. Thanks for spilling the beans.
You are right...I mean left...I mean both. You are correct, they can be switched to either side.

Gmorn Rut. I had a desk job for 6 months. Then managed a 7/11 for 2yrs. They tried to transfer me close to Washington DC. I walked. Wasn't raising kids in the city. Before i was a teen I'd sneak grandpas 22 out n take of for a woods about a mile away. Maybe my old man being abusive to mom n i started my luv of the outdoors. He never did anything with me. So I'd take off every chance i had. 👍👍

That is a very familiar story, Grizz, right down to the Grandpas 22. The important thing is that we pick ourselves up by the bootstraps and move on with the things we love. Good you thought about the kids being raised in the city and opted out...probably saved their lives...or at least their happiness.

Maybe someone should try to pull all of the outdoor clubs and fishing organizations together to petition the DNR to create a program for controlling their population. It's not rocket science if they are overpopulating. The difficulty will be in getting more than one state to agree on a solution. Open season in about three states should take care of it.

True. I'm fortunate. Wife is a treasure. Her youngest sister is a great pal. Best friends wife introduces me as "Her first Husband". Hat trick.

Reminds me of a funny song "Ain't I always nice to your kid sister? Don't I take her drivin' every night? Ain't I gonna take you fishin' with me some day? Well a man can't love a woman more than that."

I have several Ugly Sticks. Hard to beat for the price and almost indestructible.

I bought a six foot light saltwater/heavy fresh water Ugly Stick about 45 years ago and I put an Ambassador bait caster on it so I could toss an iron spider a half mile across the mouth of the Escanaba River to snag King Salmon. It took the sport out of it when I hauled them across the water like a frying pan. I still have that pole and it is in perfect condition. I'm thinking about mounting it on my side by side and using it as a winch. One thing for sure about ugly sticks, they are strong.

RJ let me tell you about my dog she’s a black lab/coonhound and she loved training and finally hunting ducks and pheasants all she needed was to see the shotgun and she’d get giddy then jump in the van.
One spring I decided to mess around with the dog so I walked out the door carrying a fishing pole and tackle box the dog looked then took off running toward the barn, I went to look for her a while later so I walked down to the barn and there was my well trained dig...digging worms!

Great story...I believe it...That was one smart dog that was NOT getting left behind.

They planted a bunch of lakes in the UP of Michigan with brook trout that I believe came from the East Coast area.
Maybe the Seneca River. They grew really fast and they were voracious. Within a couple of years they would get to be around 20 inches and about 4-5 pounds.

They wouldn't last long in the UP of Michigan. The eagles and osprey would have them before man ever set eyes on them.

Yeah Jack, most saltwater reels are made with handles on the right side. I never thought about handles being on the left until I looked for my first baitcaster. I've always used my fresh and saltwater spinning reels, with the handle on the left side, and cast with my right. I just figured, with a saltwater boat rod or trolling rod, you don't cast, just let out line. Then you're cranking the reel with your dominant (stronger)arm.

Right...I mean correct, Fred. Now that I think about it, I think I do use my dominant (right) hand to reel with unless it's on a spin-cast. Even on a fly-rod I use my right hand to reel...or do I? I'm going to need to go look at my fly-rod now.

Beautiful spot and nice fish, Big eye. Thanks for the pics! Is the first one a Splake, Lake Trout, or Brookie?

Mind boggling. When I am using a spin cast the handle is on the left because I cast with the right. When using a bait-caster I do the same, but when using trolling rods, the handle is on the right. Never really thought about it before.

Yup, it's too late to yell at them now. Maybe they'll fess up in twenty years or so while having a good time around the campfire...there's always a bright side.
