You’re alright using mono and flouro for fish that size as long as they don’t take the lure real deep. A lot of time when fishing for northerns I use the medium or large size spoon like a little Cleo and a larger size northern can pretty much swallow it. If I don’t have a wire leader——-probably gone.

I believe the guy that started this was asking a serious question. Isn’t there a section called chit-chat for all the rest if you that can’t answer seriously?

When you fish for musky you usually use a pretty large bait and they seldom swallow it far enough in to get behind those rear teeth. When we fish for northern we often use smaller spoons etc and they can be hooked deeper.

Most of the people in our Muskies Inc chapter use either 60# or (most) 80# leader. Some mono - some fluorocarbon. Most all told me not to use the vinyl coated steel. Thats what I go by. The people I fish with are catching a few 45 -50# ( just not me yet) and many 35–44# muskies every year with no cut off problems. Many use straight 80# braid with no leader and still catch the big ones without cutting off. They all have told me to check line for abrasions after ever hookup and cut off if ‘any’ fraying and re-tie. It has worked for the 20 to 35# muskies I have caught.

Are you catching these in Utah? Record musky in Utah is 33 lbs

Ok... I had a 10-12 lb northern cut 60 lb flouro. I will stick to a wire leader.

Very interesting! I’ve always had a slight interest in the Jesse James story. You fanned the spark that’s still in me.
The fact that Ford was charged with murder was new to me. It smacks of a government cover up. Jesse must have been an embarrassment to the feds Was he executed? That might be further proof.
Love the tie to Enron. I had a friend in church ( Bible church in Darien Ct that had a mixture of ethnicity and economic status) who was pretty high up in Enron
He was in and out of court for several years. He owned three houses. One in Texas, Colorado and Darien. He sold his house in Darien and moved away. I think he was found not guilty.
In reading your story I’m reminded that money isn’t the source of all evil but the love of money is the source of all evil. So Ken could have had some moral fiber but was led away from it by his love for money.
Yes funny in a sense.
Two questions remain.
Was Ford executed?
Were any government officials indicted in the Enron scam? That one is more topical. To quote a great story teller
Just sayin!

He was charged with the murder but given a full pardon. He was shot to death 10 years later.

Great. Lots of fish but you can’t keep the redfish, snook or trout until the end of May next year. Throw a little chum and fish around the mangrove islands. Good fishing for mangrove snappers, pompano, sheepshead, cobia, Spanish mackerel and jacks.

If you’re serious about catching larger northern pike or musky you need 20 lb braid or mono and a steel leader. The wire or steel leader does not deter the pike from striking. They are a reaction strike fish. I don’t care if you use 100 lb braid or mono, if they are hooked deep, behind their back teeth, they will cut the line. Try it yourself. Next time you catch a northern pike, loop your line around their back teeth and pull on it. Those teeth are like razors.

Lot of good fishing down here. Pine island sound has great snook, trout and redfish but we are C + R until the end of may. Boca Grande pass and Gasparilla island has good fishing all around it. Blind pass is a great area for trout and pompano and sheepshead. If you have a boat that can get out 20 - 90 miles grouper and snapper are plentiful. Plenty of good fishing in the area you just have to get out and find the spots. Boca Grande is the tarpon capitol of the world and there are Goliath grouper and plenty of sharks and jacks in the area.

A nice read Bob...James would have been 104 at death. That was a lot of hard living to make it to that ripe of age. I have no dog in this fight. I believe he was killed at the OK Coral. LOL

I didn’t think Jesse James was at the OK Correl.

Bowfin. Great fighters. Fun to catch. Never tried eating one but that’s cause we had plenty of walleyes, perch, bluegill whitebass and northerns in Wi. In Wi we called them dog fish.

I have a friend lives in Bradenton, if I visit her would I have a shot at a peacock? How much is an out of state temp license for a 72 yo retired Navy vet?

Looks like you have to be a resident to take advantage of any military discounts.

I haven’t heard of any hot peacock bass fishing in the Bradenton area. I would plan on heading closer to Miami. Maybe your friend knows something. If you get there and find any good peacock bass fishing please let me know. I am only 60 miles from that area.

I think if the people who kneel would take the time to see how the National Anthem came to be by patriots putting themselves in harms way that there lould be less kneeling. Just Google it.

The lies of s******c r****m (proven false by eight years of Obama; it took a lot of white v**es to elect him) and police hunting and k*****g innocent b****s (you get shot for BEHAVIOR, not for your color; if I did what they do I’d be shot too) are sparking the revolt. The media neglects to mention that G****e F***d had a lethal dose of f******l in his system when he died, and that he had been safely restrained in the back seat of a police car prior to being removed at his own request because he said he could not breathe. T***hful reporting would go a long way towards correcting these misconceptions.

I’ll get down off of the soap box now.

And I will not be watching a game that plays another anthem other than America’s National Anthem. If they are playing a black anthem then they had better play an Asian anthem and a Native American anthem and a Hispanic anthem and a Polish anthem and a ukranium anthem a German anthem an English anthem and all the other nationalities that have come to this country. Right now as far as I am concerned B*M is nothing but a terrorist group.
