I’m going to be headed back to Jensen Beach soon and on my bucket list is to catch a Peacock bass. Where should I go and what kind of bait etc should I be using? Ideas?

Katriniagirl: Well lady fishergal, I think there are some in and around Miami in the canals there. I caught my PB in Brazil in the Amazon. It weighed 19 lbs. While the Peacock Bass that weighs 20 lbs is the magic number, i was quite happy with my fish.

Peacock Bass are very territorial and will aggressively attack any intruder. Therefore, we used a Heddon Woodchopper lure. It is a big lure maybe 9 to 10 inches long with blades on either end. You do a modified "walk the dog" retrieve and if there is a Peacock Bass there, you are very likely to get a blowup. It was a fun trip, we fished 4 days and caught many fish, I probably landed five or six that weighed 4 to 8 lbs.

We flew from Houston to Miami and then an overnight flight to Mananus, Brazil. From there a puddle jumber further west to a grass landing strip along side a small village on the river where we met our guide and a house boat that we live on for the week.

If you are interested, send me a personal message and I will forward a photo of the mounted fish I have on the wall. Just Sayin..RJS

I thought you had to go to Mexico for peacocks? Where are they in the US? Not sure where Jensen Beach is.

Jensen Beach is 40 miles north of west palm beach on east coast

I caught a ton of large peacocks on floating Rapalas and Rebels in Panama. They will probably take anything a largemouth would. Where to find them in Florida should be easy to find out on the web

George Poveromo did a show on catching them in Miami, FL area. Believe it's on You Tube for viewing.

But is WEST Palm Beach on the West Coast of Florida? RJS. Is the Touch Screen with all the models distracting you again?

If its not on West side of it I wonder why its called WEST.

I am correced! Thank you. However, only folks in FL would be thinking of the West Coast as the West Palm Beach. The rest of America would more logically think of the West Coast as being California, don't you think? Just Sayin...RJS

Mexico has peacocks. Would you not consider Mexico in the west? It's as west as Texas. There are no peacocks in California that I know of. Well, over in the Cemetery on 1st on on the WEST side of Lincoln CA there are peacocks that sit up on the fence and sometimes on the grave stones. Now if you didn't know that, and you were in that place at night, and one them cocks started sounding off, besides messing your pants, what would you do? Ever heard one of them go off?

I have Spirit. I used to go by a few acre yard of them near one of our stations I did Maintenance at. I would make a noise and they would all sound off and flex their feathers.

I would call Ghostbusters Spirit. Maybe Roto Rooter and ask for the TAPS guys. Ghosthunters. If they showed up with spotlights and Shotguns to go Peacock hunting it would be pretty funny.

Probably should just refer to the coasts as left (west) and right (East).
