Pinch or file the barbs down. If you ever find a source of 10's or 12's, please let me know. Don't know of anyone making the smaller circle hooks.

Don’t know anything about this brand, but i need to replenish my box and I saw these supposed size 10 circles.

Where'd you pull that hog from? The last trout I caught was about that size, but FAT - I couldn't get my hands around it. I didn't weigh it but I'm guessing it was around 8 pounds. That was Dec 2019 and I haven't caught one since. And not for lack of trying. Some how I've lost the knack.

Fishing this weekend in the NC mountains @ the Cherokee Reservation Memorial Day trout tourney. Lots of stocked fish, some tagged, $10K out there swimming around. A young guy in my vicinity caught on of the tagged fish, made mine look like a baby. Beautiful fish.

Perfect day though, landed and released 5, including this beauty.

So far hooks work great except on the occasion of operator error. 50 years of hook setting in streams will take some time to unlearn.

Was at Lake Skinner and fishing was O.K. Got three, lost two. Can you guess the weight on the biggest one?

Feeling 7.2.

Brothers & Sisters,
Anyone care to comment on using circle hooks to fish trout in a stream? I use them for most other fishing, but have never tried floating salmon eggs, mice tails, etc with a circle hook.

Thanks,
Steve

Some nice fat rainbows out near Hat Creek.

Gorgeous fish. Those stockers in CA or have they got sometime in the water? Here in GA or back home in PA, it'd be quite the catch getting even one that size out of public water.

So I just tried carp fishing for the first time yesterday using some corn and a small hook, but they would keep spiting the hook either whiles fighting or b4 I could hook up. I was using 15pound mono. (I live in New York where carp are really seen as a trash fish. But being one of the biggest fish in New York I'd like some pointers and suggestions. Thanks for the help.

Larger size hook. I typically fish 2/0 to 6/0’s in my area, mainly circles. Carp typically 10-20-30lb range that I catch have no problem with those size hooks.

Hey everyone, i’m new to buying saltwater pole and reel. I’m looking to get into shore saltwater fishing and I found a rod and reel. For rod I think about getting is Shimano Teramar Southeast Spinning Rod and reel is Penn Slammer III Spinning Reel the question I have is what size of rod should I get? And what gear ratio should I get? I don’t wanna get something that can’t handle bigger fish like striped and I don’t wanna get something that’s too much for smaller saltwater fish. I hope this makes sense. Also, is bait runner better to use?

5000 series reel works well for me as i’m not hunting sea monsters. As for the rod, depends how far you want to cast really. I fish the 5000 on a 7ft fast action, medium weight rod to a 13ft fast action medium heavy surf rod when i wanna get way out there. I’m a tightwad so i bought a Kast King Sharky Baitfeeder 3 paired with the 7ft Ugly Stick and 13ft Berry Pro Shadow Hunter.

Make normal doughball then boil them till they get to a hardness you like and can cast. The hair on the hair rig is to be pushed through the boilie so it’s attached below the bare hook. Carp suck the back on hair line down the gullet and the circle hook is hopefully well placed in it’s jaw.

I can’t either, but I worked for a while in Europe where carp are a serious game fish and table fare, and I had some opportunities to fish with coworkers.

Here at home, I normally just use a #2 treble hooks with the barbs crimped down for my dough. Basically freeze it and keep it in a cooler w/ ice while fishing so i can cast it but as it warms in the water it can flake off.

I don’t either. They only work in an area that has been well chummed. It’s line fishing with a fried hush puppy. I believe you’re better served to fish a soft bait that disintegrates and attracts fish.
