Klamath Glen producing the most.

Hi and thanks again for the info. Do you live in Klamath and did you know Gary Farley? Gary was a guide on the Klamath River and I fished with him for 30 years. He was killed in a boating accident about 3 years ago. I haven't fished the Klamath since. Are you talking the run above the boat launch at the Glenn or the general area? There should be a fair number of Steelhead in the river in that area right now as well. I've fished the Klamath since I was a kid. Usually fished from the 101 Bridge up to Johnsons. We used to camp up at the gravel bar next to Pecquan Creek. (don't mind the misspelling). Thats when the salmon runs were huge before the commercial fishing began at the Mouth. There were also a lot of huge Sturgeon in the lower river. (Weitchpec and below) I could go on and on about my fishing experiences on the Klamath. I've also taken my kids up for years. Let's keep in touch and share some stories.

You'r heading up there at a great time for Silvers. I don't have any current reports. Fished the Tsiu a couple of years ago at this time and had great fishing! Also, lots of bears and beautiful scenery! Good luck and have a great time!

Tong- There's nothing unpolite about the new guy's question, it's just not specific enough. Don't be so sensitive!

Greetings! I've fly fished the Situk River out of Yakutat, Alaska several times over the past nearly 30 years. The Situk hasn't changed much but the fishing has. It is far more crowded on the banks than when I first threw flies at Coho in August 1994. I still enjoy going there and still manage to hook fish, but I am timing my trips so as to avoid the crowds as much as possible yet be there earlier or later in the runs of the particular salmon species. I intend to fish in late July or early August next year to catch the later sockeye runs and the earlier running coho.
Please let me know if you have suggestions to better my timing.

Hi McCarty- I have not fished the Situk. Two years ago my sons and I fished the Tsui, which is only a couple miles north of the Situk. We went out of Yakutat to a lodge on the river and had a wonderful time. It was the last week in August and the River was full of Silvers. Great fly fishing! Unfortunately, there are two lodges and a lot of fly ins, so the short river was crowded as well. This Lodge stays open from mid Aug. to the 1st week in Oct. The peak is the last week in Aug. through the 1st or second week in Sept... If you want the best fishing I don't think there is a way around a lot of fishermen. Lots of bears and the scenery was spectacular! I understand that the Situk has a good run of Steelhead a little later in the season. You might want to give that a try. I'll try to post some picture later. Tight Lines!

I fish the first 3 or 4 miles below Woodsons Bridge. I've only fished the Slough Hole above the Bridge a couple of times.

The start of a lot of fun adventures, but no amount of fish is worth your life.
I grew up fishing over the Columbia River Bar and still maintain the same rules for safety:
Besides all of the obvious safety precautions such as lifejackets, sounding device , VHF radio, back up GPS service such as on your phone , I never go out without my anchor and at least 300 feet of line and 20 feet of chain for your size boat.

I always check the wind ,weather and wave conditions and if concerned call the Coast Guard on channel 22 for a bar report before heading out.

I prefer to tagalong or lead another boat on the way out as well as when you are coming back in. I prefer to choose tides where you have an incoming tide early in the morning, and get your fishing done before the wind comes up and come across the bar at Highwater slack or while the current is still coming in.

I have crossed bars from Alaska to panama several times over the years in my own boat and others and this advice has never failed me with a few exceptions of a Southwest blow on the incoming tide. It’s usually the Westerly northwest , Or even north wind against a strong ebb tide that creates the short and big waves. Listen to the Coast Guard weather report for bar conditions even when you’re at home and you will soon discover The patterns of the weather during the summer and late fall.

Ideally I like to see a doubling of the wave height and of the swell. For instance 4 foot swell at least eight seconds apart, better yet 4 foot swell 10 seconds apart. Watch the weather report for days before you go out and the days after you are going out to see what the pattern is going to be and what the pattern has been in the previous several days.

I have had many beautiful trips with buddies and my family including when they were young children from northern BC to southern Oregon and given the right conditions such as I just explained, we have had many wonderful successful trips. Usually the ones that aren’t so much fun is as a result of staying out too late or pushing the envelope and violating my own rules.

It’s not always good luck it’s more good seamanship that will add to your successful trips. Have fun and be safe.
The start of a lot of fun adventures, but no amoun... (show quote)

Really good advice! It's nice to see so many thoughtful boaters on the Stage!

Great catching Tom ! Awesome pics ! We'll be up in Corning, Woodson Bridge RV park next month to try for Salmon ,, Thanks for sharing your day with us ,Congrats !🤙🤙👍

I sometimes put in at Woodsons. usually, fish downriver. Where do you go and when will you be there? It may be tough with the low water this year. Do you use a jet boat?

I haven't fished it because it is kind of far to go, but I hear it's great for salmon and steelhead. I went out with a guide a couple of times on the Umpqua.

I've had fantastic Steelhead fishing on the main Umpqua when the water conditions are right. A lot of wild fish in the teens. I'm usually on the upper river and mainly slot fishing. I also fish the South Fork up near Roseburg especially when the main is out. Catch a lot of good sized hatchery fish. (there's a hatchery up the S. Fork) I always use a guide. I don't know where you live but you have to try the South Fork of the Coquille. the Steelhead fishing can be great! It's a small river with a muddy type bottom with lots of fish. Three years ago I was there by myself with a guide for two days.
I hooked 32 fish and landed 27. A good mixture of hatchery and wild fish. You can keep 3 hatchery fish there. If you have an interest maybe you would like to get together for some Steelhead fishing this winter. My years long buddy passed away a couple of years ago and I haven't been up there since.
