Which lake would you recommend for the average fisherman? Lake Cumberland or Dale Hollow?

Depends on what fish you'd like to target. If you are interested in Strippers then I'd recommend Lake Cumberland. If you are interested in Smallmouth Bass I'd recommend Dale Hollow. Both lakes are good Largemouth Bass, Crappie, and Catfish fisheries. Lake Cumberland is beautiful but in my personal opinion I think Dale Hollow is the most beautiful.

Good fishing. I live in Lou,Kyfish it sometime

Gary,
I live in Louisville as well. Fish every public and private body I can find and get permission to fish. All the "Fishing in the Neighborhood " ponds as well as Parks, Golf Courses, and subdivision ponds. One "honeyhole" is on Plantside Drive. Where do you like to fish?

Nice fish again. Working, so I haven't been able to get out myself. You're going to make me jealous if you keep that up 😀.

Went out this morning since the weather man said it wouldn't rain. Guess what, it rained good thing I had my rain suit with me or my trip wouldn't have lasted long. Tossed a Crankbait around for a while but ended up getting all my fish on the tight line rig. managed to catch 3 all about the same size, didn't get a pic of one because of the rain but even in the rain it was a lot of fun catching these guys.

Nice smallness. I would've endured the rain to catch those.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the advice, I found that worked well for catfish back when I fished a lot with my late Dad, that and the downfalls in the same area were always good for finding those cats, glad to hear the same techniques might get me on the bass too. Been years, but I’ve fished for a Smallies on the Kishwaukee between Belvidere and Rockford over the years, wading and canoeing, but never much on the Rock River. Appreciate every piece of advice that comes my way.

A pleasure, keep your lines tight.

I recently purchased and moved to a Condo on the banks of the Rock River in Dixon, IL. I’ve been wanting a place on the river forever, but now that I’ve been retired for some years, and recently (2020) widowed, I finally made the move. I’m planning on getting back into fishing and boating. Always interested in any tips on river fishing, it’s been several years since I’ve actively fished the Rock River. Fished for catfish for years between Dixon and Oregon when my Dad was still alive and active, but gave it up for quite a few years after he passed and I sold my boat. I’m interested in catfish, walleye, bass and crappie fishing between the dams from Dixon to Sterling/Rock Falls. I’ve purchased a boat, have dock facilities at the Condo, so it’ll be quick and easy to get on the river. It also came with kayaks for residents use. Any tips would be welcom.

Haven't fished the Rock River but I'm an avid large mouth and small mouth bass fisherman and I've learned that if you seek out eddys and outside bends in the river where the current slackers you'll catch em more often than not. Also, people will often say the the whopper plopped is past its heyday but if you fish in in those areas I mention it will call up the big ones and there is absolutely nothing like a top water bite. I'm partial to the 110 loon.

Starting that girl the right way. Good for you

Yes, that's my Granddaughter. She loves to fish. Not the best picture in the world, but that is a rainbow trout she caught on live minnow. She has also caught 4lb largemouth bass on a top water lure. Have the event on GoPro but haven't edited it yet.

Nice Fish DCD. Bet you had a great time pulling that one in.

It was intense. Was actually bass fishing at the time and she struck a 110 loon whopper plopped on 30lb braid with no steel leader. Just knew she was going to chew through that braid before I could get her in. Took over 45 minutes playing her in the currents of the tailwaters.

Dangler, here's a tip. If you hit "Quote Reply " under the post you're responding to,it will show above your reply. Then we'll know who you're responding to. Just like above this post.

Thanks for the tip. Was keeping the locations in my head to not repeat replies to same person (smile). This way is a lot easier than catching this muskie was!
