Yeah Saw I prefer apple wood myself also. I used to use a 50/50 hickory, alder mix.

Yeah that's total understandable on the ranchers part. Specially the way people are these days. No respect for others.

I'm in the East Bay and I was and mostly just talk about my nextdoor backyard little resivior Conta Loma, the parks only 780 acres with around 77 acres of surface water. It's a great place for walkers also it's pretty flat no big hills. You can walk around it, in less than an hour, it's only a 1.6 mile walk it's great for walker fisherman stop and hit spot throw a couple of cast and carry on with their walk. I can be there in a few minutes. Any place else for me I'm looking at a hour, hour plus drive for trout. I do like Lake Amador that's a great place for lake trout with their 10+ lb trout plants. And with the monster Blue's and Channel cats they have there also. I went out to Loma yester for a couple of hours. I was only able to land a 1.5 trout off a tossed Kastmaster. And missed a few other bites here and there, water temp was 64°. These were taken from out the middle of the res. One looking forward and the other one looking back.

Thanks Snaggletooth Yeah years ago I used to do pretty good pulling buggers behind a dodger. Not sure why I stopped but it's back in the lineup. I've got a few old inch to a inch and a half pearl wobblers I haven't used in probably just as long or longer. I've done well with in the past. I'm thinking about throwing a couple in the box. The trout season here is coming to an end, we got maybe a month or so left if that. I think it's time to go old school and change things up a little. And start showing them something different.

Hey Ranger I was just going over this older post again. And I'm with you on that, I'll help or give tips when I figure it's warranted or it would be happily taken. Where I go we get a lot of weed growth and I see this the most people using a 1 to 2' leader for trout. And we all know trout that aren't going to mess around looking for bait in the weeds. The tip I share the most that can turn someone's fishing trip from a no catching to catching one is. I explain and let them know when your bait is down in the weeds your not even in the game. By making your leader as long it gets your bait up and out of weeds. And the longer the better, because another thing is can't see down and their eyes can only see up. So make your leader so that your still able to cast it and net your fish when the time comes. And another good tip is when using and injecting worms with air. Is to also use a marshmallow as a tell to let you know your worm is still floating and not in the weeds. And if you see your marshmallow floating your bait probably needed to be checked anyway. And I'm the same with you when it comes to your honey hole spot. The only difference on this one is. I call it mine the bread and butter spot. 👍

I was running out of Ideas. And just that morning before hitting the road. I was going through some old stuff and ran across a couple of old wooly buggers and just tossed them in my pocket. I'm glad I did.

They were pretty chubby. But they must have come from the farm that way their bellies were empty.

Sometimes you can get lucky by just showing them something different. By going old school on them.

We hit the water around 8:00am. You really couldn't have asked for any nicer of a day zero wind clear skies. Though the draw back of this great weather we've been having. Is the rise in water temperature, the surface temp was 62° when I got there and 67° when I got off the water. Most of the boaters and the guys on the yacks had all pulled out of there by noon. If this weather keeps up it looks like trout season may be coming to an end early this year. Fishing was tough, I tried everything just short of just dumping my tackle box over the side. I missed a couple of bites. But I was able to land a couple nice trout once I decide to switch over and just troll for the rest of the day. The 1st trout was 4lb5oz top lining a wooly bugger behind a dodger. The 2nd trout was 4lb9oz 22' down off the downrigger while pulling flasher with a nightcrawler.

Or you can pick up one of those removable suction cup transducer mounts. Back in the day, I felt the same way about drilling holes or screws in to my boat and that's understandable. So that's what I used to use. I never had any problems or issues with it. Besides me forgetting to put it on before heading out. But it was an easy enough fix. Just reach over and stick it on. My boats from the late 50s and was no stranger to holes, screws or bolts as you can see. Long before I got it, but like others have stated screws and bolts are easy enough to make water tight. Just thought I'd share this option with ya. I'll have to look but I think I may still have it floating around here somewhere. If this may be an option you'd like to explore. Let me know and I'll see if I can dig it up and you can have it. If I can find it and it's still in good usable shape, just pay for the shipping.
