My home is on Shutters arm.
I’ve caught them all over. Any structure and you’ll get them. We even catch them in the rain. We don’t troll. We fish anchored by structures or from a dock. Lakeshore Lodges dock is huge, public and lots of vegetation. It’s another good place to try.

I'm heading to Tenmile in a couple of weeks. I have mostly fished for bass there but have fished for perch in Minnesota as a kid. As I recall we trolled Wedding Rings with a worm hooked on it. What were you using and about where on the lake for perch?

Perch are thick in that lake by every structure including the County fishing dock. A crappie Rig with night crawlers will be all you need. The numbers of fish caught are amazing. Early morning and early evening is best but we’ve caught them all day long.

Thanks for the info; already have a vrbo in Florence for this year but we will check out the cottage another time. Can you recommend any charter services or guides for fishing in that area?

Talk to Todd Harrington out of Elkton
He runs a guide service and is very helpful

Thanks ! Will try to use the docks as not taking boat.

Hi Joe,
Winchester Bay has a huge crab dock. It was damaged in a recent storm but should be fixed soon. Salmon Harbor also has several docks that allow crabbing.
The Jetty fishing is also pretty good with sand crabs for bait. The Bites on Bait store in Coos Bay/ Empire can get them for you. Call them first.

My family will be staying in Florence late July thru early August this year and we are looking to go salmon and bottom fishing with a guide or charter.
Anyone have recommendations for either around Florence or Winchester Bay?
Thanks for your time!

I have a rental in Winchester Bay. The Cozy crab cottage it’s 1 block from the bay. All of the Umpqua from Salmon Harbor to the Bar and from the Harbor up River to the bend is good for trolling for Salmon.

Reedsport from museum up River to Elkton is also good.

The Siuslaw River from the Florence boat launch to the Bar is also good Salmon fishing.

You need to put out crab traps when you go at Winchester Bay. It’s been good.

The Cozy Crab Cottage in Winchester Bay has a crab pot there and we also have a pot to boil them outside.
Check out my listing online.

Dell,
We were just there sorry we didn’t get to meet up. I had some work to do on my rental and the bad weather only left me 3 days to get it done.
We fished one day from inside my boat house and did pretty good. I posted pictures under Tenmile Lake Oregon of two of the trout we caught on worms.

Lots of rain and cold weather but caught two nice trout and enough Yellow Perch for a fish fry last week.

I saw this robotic lure, or something very similar, being demonstrated on Shark Tank (TV show) the other day. It is batttery-powered and looked pretty realistic swimming in the tank. There are different sizes and prices starting at 4 inches. They are available at prices lower than what you see here. I have some concerns about their usefulness. Has anyone tried these? Are they actually effective after a large fish slams them? Are they effective at all?

My Wife bought me one. I will be trying it out on the Umpqua River soon.

I know Todd. Good guy. Yeh he works the Big K Ranch area. You need 2 days to do that float. Watch out for the drop channel. Can be considered a fall at times. It can get dicey. Most fish on the loop is catch and release practice so there's sizable catch for their customers. So there is some lunkers on that stretch. There's good bassing above Sayers Rapids to Bunches Bar, but you have to go up to Elkton and cross the river and take Henderer Rd. Back down the river to a crude boat ramp. It will be about 1/2 mile above Sawyers Rapids. You can see the ramp from Paradise Creek road. On Hwy. 38. Red Ranch house on the hill on east side of river. (Reference ) Good frog water, good depth and rock structure. There's a few sturgeon in that pocket and salmon will hang on the bottom during summer also near creeks. It's about a 2 mile stretch.
Hell I forgot about the schad question. Behind Elkton Elementary by the bus station. You gotta walk down there. It can get active. Also on Hwy 138. Turn off 38 from Elkton. About 10 to 12 miles. You'll see vehicles parking on right side with front of vehicles facing road. Some people haul ass on that road, so they park that way to get a safer take off. March might see some activity . April's better. I've noticed all fishing times, peak etc., are not as consistent as it used to be. Kind of a 2 week lag. Good luck.
I know Todd. Good guy. Yeh he works the Big K Ranc... (show quote)

Thank you for all of the info. I recognize the locations you pointed out. We Travel the 138 and 38 often so I’m very familiar with the Highway and landmarks. I can’t wait to fish the river. I’ve seen parked cars in the area by the school.
Take care and thank you.

Thank you for the info. I don’t have a drift boat. I have a 22.5ft Titan Jet so I’m too big for the loop. Todd guided us for Salmon out of Reedsport. Great guy.
We’re looking for something new. On 10 mile Lake off of our dock we’ve caught lots of fish but we’d like to do some small mouth fishing.

Now you might have me on that one. I've only fished for sturgeon in that area. I've caught them right across from the Loon Lake turn off, but I haven't worked any lower for smallies.

I know they do a lot of fishing around Elkton near the loop but it’s private access. Todd Harrington is a guide there and we’ve been told it’s action packed but I heard they can be found near Brandy bar. We just keep looking for new fishing spots.
