Heh folks, name is Dell. I grew up here enjoying the offerings of the area. I'm 60 now and back in the area. I've worked these rivers, Umpqua, Smith, Coos and Elk, pretty well. I also indulge in the clam and crab harvesting. Steelhead, salmon, sturgeon, striper and ocean bottom fishing is my targeted venture. I don't hunt anymore, only with my truck it seems. Ha ha. I'm kidding. Anyway I'm a positive type personality, regardless of situation. If you have questions about what's happening on these waters I've mentioned or some questions in general, I'll share what I've experienced or know to the best of my knowledge. I usually tell people that my stuff works all the time, sometimes! Humor is a good thing. So hello and good bye for now. Remember a wet line always has a better chance of catching than a dry one. Tight Lines. Dell

Heh, thanks for the welcome. I forgot to mention I'm into food too, so I'll be sharing a few clam, oyster, and fish recipes from time to time that are worth trying.
Expect cholesterol levels to rise. Well Ok. I look forward to our next conversation. Dell

Welcome Dale. As a fellow Oregonian (Salem), it'll be a true pleasure to read your advice and as the household cook, I will definitely be looking forward to your recipes. Tight lines to you also and who knows, maybe we'll meet at a fishing hole somewhere.

Welcome Dell.... from a fellow Oregonian in Prospect (Cascade Gorge) on the Rogue River. I have not spent much time in my 40 years in Oregon on your part of the coast....I gotta get over there and explore that part of the extraordinary Oregon coast.
I'm sure Jarhead (a Californian...but we tolerate him coming to Oregon...lol) will be sending his comments, as his Mom lived around Lakeside until recently. We'll be looking forward to the helpful hints and reports you may have to share.

BTW....loved that you used the word "harvest".....the main reason I fish or crab.
Although the "sport part" is fun, as well.....about half the time I am reeling in a fish, my mind is thinking...this is gonna be tasty on my grill !

River's high right now. After dropping, bite will pick up and moreso as the water warms up. I have friends that are into rubber worms and are pretty successful. The trick is finding the color for that particular time of day. We started with darker colors in the morning and lighter mid-day, then back to dark. Again everybody has their own philosophy. This is what worked for us. 2 ways to hook it: some call it Texas style, hook it in the middle of worm, the other is to run worm up the hook and keep worm straight. Cast them both the same, trick is to watch your line for the bite not your tip.The wiggle wart,( goldfish brown with orange tint) has been very effective. Don't be surprised if a steelhead grabs it either. When in doubt, nightcrawler and split shot. You'll get more bites but size has a tendency to be smaller.
As a norm your more likely to catch 1 pounders around Scottsburg. Up river tends to have more abundance of smaller fish. That doesn't mean there's not some hogs hanging around. Also bass don't like debris on your bait or line. Clean whenever present you'll increase your bite. Hope this helps. Tight Lines Dell

Thank you
Is Brandy Bar high enough up river to get into the small mouth bass?

Actually, when you hook the worm in the middle, that's referred to "wacky " style.
When you run a worm hook through 1 end and then bury the hook in the worm so it hangs straight and is weedless, it's referred to as "Texas rigged ". Just Sayin. 🤠👍

Now you might have me on that one. I've only fished for sturgeon in that area. I've caught them right across from the Loon Lake turn off, but I haven't worked any lower for smallies.

I know they do a lot of fishing around Elkton near the loop but it’s private access. Todd Harrington is a guide there and we’ve been told it’s action packed but I heard they can be found near Brandy bar. We just keep looking for new fishing spots.
