Hi Banjo. Any suggestions on where we can be opportunistic in a couple weeks when we come to the area? Better boat ramps or other put-ins for yak fishing on the local lakes and creeks.
Hi, I live in TX and have never fished around Chattanooga, but my wife and I are considering hauling our yaks up in about a month for our 30th anniversary trip. We'd like to do some fishing from the yaks and creek wading (wading creeks down here is a very risky proposition). Particularly interested in getting species we don't have in SETX like smallies, Coosa, rockbass, yellow perch, etc. I actually have a business trip this week up there and was going to take my few off hours to scout a little bit.
Any suggestions on creeks to wade or yak with good public access points would be greatly appreciated. Not asking coordinates to your honey holes, just get me a good start.
Thanks in advance!
Nice gills. Thanks for sharing. Def gotta get that grandson on 'em.
Congrats, TDub!
I'll have to check out your YTC.
Hey folks, the missus and I are going to San Antonio soon and would like to take a few hours to do a little creek fishing (wading or bank) or bank fishing on lake/river/pond. Not particular about species. Figured we'd take a few rods--bass and light tackle and bait assortment for whatever we encounter. Panfish or white bass on the light is just as welcome as LM/spots on the main gear. Any suggestions for places around there or en route? We'll be heading in on I-10 from the Beaumont area, so don't mind stopping off on the way. When there we'll be staying SE part for a bit then NW. Thanks in advance.
Hey, Montana's already adopting the "y'all"!
Man, I'm just trying to get a day open to take the wife fishing, but I'll keep the invite in mind.

You have located centrally to numerous Rivers such being great for your size Boat. Neches River and Trinity River also even nearer to you is Village Creek, with Boat ramp under the Bridge on Hwy. 96 South on outskirts of Lumberton between Silsbee.
drewpolk is correct. I'll add some info...
Also a Neches boat ramp just west of Evadale on 96.
Also launches for Village Creek on Hwy 327 and 418 out of Kountze, but I don't recall if just paddling or they have ramps. VC may have been a little low in some spots for a boat before last week's rain but should be ok now. You'll have narrow passage in a few spots on VC but it is nice water for this area, always less muddy than the Neches (about everything is).
You can be on the Angelina in an hour at Bevilport (google earth it--head N on 287 then E on 190 then...).
Steinhagen is less than an hour away and would fit your boat. (locals call it "Dam B") Don't know what you like to fish for, but it has bass, crappie and cats (and plenty o gators). There's boat ramps on either end of the 190 bridgeway. You can go up the Neches out of the lake--a few miles north you hit the Neches and Angelina confluence.
You can also hit Pine Island Bayou between Lumberton and Beaumont. They redid the ramp off 96/287 a few years ago and it's nice (Cooks Lake Rd exit). Long haul downstream to the Neches and Cooks Lake, not far north of the Neches saltwater barrier.
Ah, good. Paddle tail flukes is our bread n butter. I'm guessing the whites would go after a 3" better than a bigger.
That's a nice chunky gal hangin there.
In the creeks you said...closer to the mouth of the coves vs further in? What bait? Our next trip up to Rayburn I may try for some. Also, we're headed to Caddo in a couple weeks, so may try there.
Weekend before last I ran into a fellow yakker at Rayburn one evening headed out to night fish. He'd been there a couple days and was targeting crappie but was getting even more white bass. Dropping a green light about 10 ft. So...if they're hitting in the day where you are I'd think night would also be an option. Granted, I wasn't targeting them on Rayburn so I can't say how good they were hitting during the day. All the LM/spots I caught were against the bank in the junk.
What gloves do you wear? Those look like full finger.
Welcome David! So is it Bridge City or Vidor...or maybe Orangefield?
I've yet to get down to the good salt near you. I've kept in the fresh around the bayous, creeks and lakes so far a little upcountry.
