I agree, seem to be sunning. Happy to see the nice bellies on them!

My dad and I took a few casts at a backyard pond today and look what turned up! We were pretty surprised… Four fish in total hit in about 18” of water on soft plastics. Sunning themselves or getting ready to spawn?

What were the Shad caught on?

1 1/2” kastmaster spoon. I believe people usually catch them on small bucktails known as “shad darts”. ReL small, 1/32 - 1/8 ounce. Although when they are really biting I think they’ll hit anything small enough.

K S : If the catching continues, maybe switching over from spinning to conventional could take some stress off of your right side ? Worth a shot if ya have the necessary tackle .... Besides, you'll have all winter to recover. Just be careful with the snow shovel. Ooooops, used a four letter word.

Ha ha, I’m good. In fact I’m so good I went out again last night! Caught about a dozen stripers, smaller this time, up to 24”, and four catfish. Now I’m really done for a while, maybe for good until March. Tight lines!

I am with CRK 100%. Need to invest in the future as much as possible. Meanwhile, my right elbow and wrist are in considerable pain - and totally worth it!!! 🦈

Looks absolutely delish Jeremy!!! Fall run is almost over, I am new to this but I hear this year was much longer than usual. Water temp is still 60, when it dips below the veterans say the stripers head out for offshore water.

Fantastic striper fishing in lower CT River this morning, particularly just after sunrise. Stopped counting at 15 fish, 20-30”, top water, swimming plugs and Mackerel chunks. Plus a few shad to boot. I really don’t want it to get cold!

A nice fatty

No, big stripers and bluefish will take them but none around. Even smaller bluefish will chomp on them, blues have small but razor sharp teeth!

Thank you, sir.
I learned something new today.

Here is a pic, the gouge in this one’s side is from where I snagged it. There are huge, dense schools of them in Long Island Sound and up into coastal rivers and coves. Bluefish love them too.

Had a pretty good time on CT river finding and chasing schoolie stripers on a gorgeous fall day. Cold early but warmed up. Tough to locate the fish, very little action anywhere but eventually found a school in North Cove. Top water plugs provided a very good time with manic hits - and misses. Landed three, 22-26”. Also snagged some bunker in a different location but there were no monsters around to eat them! Will try to get out one more time if weather holds and marries with my schedule…..

Some fog at Baldwin Bridge launch

It’s getting cold in Connecticut! I fish in my shorts but last night I could no longer feel my feet or walk back to my car.

Any advice on good deals for waders for a woman my size (5’3 109 lbs) size 7 foot in women’s or size 6 in kids

Big respect for a petite woman who surfcasts, go get ‘em Sam!

Awesome trip Steve. I used to love doing 2 and 3 day trips out of Point Judith. Usually Block Canyon, but once we did Atlantis. There's nothing like fresh Tuna Steaks. Thanks for the pictures.

We spent time at Block and the weather buoys between Block and Atlantis. Someone said the NOAA is going to remove the buoys soon, I hope that’s not true! Previous trips hit Hydrographers as well.

Me and 9 other anglers did a 72 hour charter for tuna, swordfish and whatever else made sense. The trip was awesome! Loads of yellow fin and big eye tuna up to 100+ lbs and some mahi mahi. Caught two swordfish but just below the minimum size. Also caught a large brown shark and had up-close visits from manta rays, porpoises, whales and an enormous tiger shark. Took home about 125lbs of cleaned fish!
