Never fished the Amite, but heard it’s a good River to fish. I Canooed That River … Late 1970’s or Early 1980’s….
What a Beautiful River…… the water was Crystal Clear on a Beautiful Fall Day…. Good luck to You and Yours

Hey, this is Woody from Louisiana
Lake Charles to be exact. You’ll probably love fishing Louisiana. There’s everything from smaller ponds and lakes, to streams and rivers, and even the Gulf. The water goes from fresh to brackish to salt water. And the sizes of fish go from small (perch) to medium (bass) to large (catfish & redfish). You can fish from the banks or wade in, or jump in a small or large boat to catch a great variety of fish in Louisiana…. Of Course, that’s probably why you moved here to “Sportsman’s Paradise”.
Welcome this Great State and Have Fun

Are the gar very big? They may be eating everything else. I know one thing…. If fixed right, garfish balls can be tasty.

Hi ! I recently moved back to Lake Charles. I was friends when I lived here before, with a man named Omar Neil Smith. He grew up in Grand Chenier. Neil was a great fisherman. He knew of all the best places to fish in your area.
Unfortunately, when I moved back here, I found out Neil Smith had passed away. I had planned on fishing again in your area with Neil. We had good memories fishing in the river, catching Redfish & Drum, then in the marsh catching Flounder & Redfish.
Good luck in your retirement & in fishing the Grand Chenier Area

That’s a nice Rod… have a similar one here that I have a big spinning reel on… I’ve caught a few nice red fish with that rod & reel…. Right along lake shore drive on Calcasieu Lake in Lake Charles, Louisiana. We fished at night …… off a dock, with a nice light that attracted the fish.

Went fishing last night (Friday) in Lake Charles with my brother in law…. He had access to a dock with a Big Lamp the was pointing to the water. We got there about 10:30 pm. We caught 3 Redfish and only one Speck (Trout)…
That was around 11:15 pm. They stopped biting like someone turned off the faucet!! Even though we fished till
1 pm… we caught nothing else. We’ll try again next weekend. Sorry, no
Pictures, maybe next weekend.
Good luck everyone & Stay Outta the
Heat !!!

Our Specs (Trout) in SW Louisiana are really good eating. I went to lunch and had 2 Filets of Flounder today. OMG,
Now that was Delicious… Fried just right in Cornmeal… just like my Aunt Cleda used to fry them up!!

Great day on the water.
I do not like being out there with too much wind, either. Fun to catch those fish though!! Proud for you. That’s a nice Backdrop.
