It's definitely a dolphin. They actually fish by herding bait fish on the bank and then go up and eat them. I've seen it down here on Sawmill Creek, off of the Colleton River (tidal river). In fact, National Geographic did a piece on them several years back in the same area (Colleton/Chechessee rivers). The technique is called fish-kicking or fish-whacking.
What a beautiful fish. I can't wait to catch me on that big. 5 and a half lbs is the biggest I landed here in SC.
You sure eat good Gordon! It looks delicious!
I miss my scrapple and pondhorse. Yum!
Nothing so big for me; however, both my largest catches were about 35 lbs. One was an Amberjack (pictured in my profile pic) and the other was a Tarpon. The Amberjack was caught 40 off of Hilton Head Island and the Tarpon about 750 feet off of a keye in Belize. The Amberjack put up a 15 minute fight and the Tarpon about 10 minutes.
What a catch. That will be a tough one to beat. I'm sure this young man will be trying to top it for years to come. Thanks for sharing Gordon.
Randy, I'll definitely keep your son I'm my prayers. Roman's 8:28 is promise we can count on. Blessings for your family today.
Never fished at Edisto Beach either, but I really love the laid back, small town feel. Enjoy your time there and good luck.
Happy New Year all Y'all. Looking forward to seeing some great pics from everyone.
👍Tight lines. Post pictures if you have success.
