Lake is very low , tad offer 6 feet , many sand bars and stumps , stay in main channels , use electronics as fish are scattered , bite is great when you find them , crank baits , slab spoons , big worms on Carolina rigs . Water gin clear in many places

Rayburn late afternoon bite was incredible . Defined channels on deep diving crank baits shad color . No giants however , many 2.5 to 4 pounds. I stop counting at 20 . 100 yard stretch had multiple schools easily seen on my old fish finder that came with my old Champion . Pictures of the first two , best day for numbers , literally every cast . King cast , put trolling motor on high , strolling I call it . Fantastic you follow the channel , they would only hit shad color
I grew up in Bethlehem , fished that lake many times with my Dad in old,Sears, fiberglass boat we put on top,of the car. uncle, from,WW 2 gave us a 1.5 H.P. Johnson Seahorse gas powered “outboard” to put on back . Internal gas tank held maybe a gallon or so. I graduated with MSc in Economic Geology moved to Texas and first house was next to blimp base in Spring Texas. I live on Sam Rayburn the best p;ace for mega bass in Texas. Tight lines
I seldom fish humps however , this time of year the channels and draws are loaded . F ish chasing shad now and channels 6 to 20 feet have lots of fish hitting big 10 inch worms Carolina or spit shot rig , lightest weight works best for me . Crank baits also draw strokes in the channels far up in coves or on secondary points. Fish show up on electronics or you can troll a crank bait to locate fish and flooded grass. Lake has been very low all summer so be careful as many “new sand bars “ stumps around . Widow maker stump for example is located just off the Boiken boat ram in 18 feet water. I have seen boats hit that ant results not pretty . I strongly suggest if you are not familiar with the lake run it at 25 to 30 miles /hour and keep an eye peeled. Southern end along damn a clay bank extend perpendicular to dam face . Juts out into the main lake several hundred yards from dam ( be careful ).
I have a detailed digital lake map , the problem is exasperated because the sand bars move with a 20 foot plus difference in water level in last two years . I have lake property with an active creek. Low level the sand bar built up between this year and last is significant . Dam for example has a clay bar perpendicular to the dam face ( big hazard). Floating logs are also around with the 20 foot vertical water drop. Lake drop has caused one ramp to become non usable with a ramp collapse . High note is bite is excellent early and late. Prop store told me there have been much business in prop repair this year. Tight lines
Lake is hazardous now , sands bars , clay bars , stumps and other debris . Fishing Rayburn has been very good early and late. Chase if shad now in creek channels , crank baits , Carolina or Texas rigged ten inch shaf colors , lake has lots of grass
Big or giant White Bass , 3 inch rap aka for scale . I did not weigh them , 5 on five casts , Star guy at ramp told me it may have been lake record , stupid me thought they were hybrids .
Lake empty of boats during week plus heat wave . I found late afternoon 6 till dusk to be tolerable . Last evening windy and bite was good on big ten inch worms . Flooded hydrilla in 12 to 16 feet . Hard part is lake about 3 foot low , lots of sand bars in places you may not expect . Tight-lines
Fayetteville is great , I like the damn 12 to 18 feet year round . Lake is full of 2.5 to 4 pounders. Truly big fish are rare . I did catch a ten pounder there years ago on my dads wooden jitterbug . Favorite lake for numbers . Lake gets crowded on weekends . I suggest midweek . Tight lines Oberstkomando
July 5th. Hot during day , I find it unbearable , evening bite 7 pm to dusk is good in 18 feet to 4 feet . Big worms 10 inch or so . Unweighted or Carolina rig with long 3 foot leader. Tight lines
