Thanks Big Dog. I would like to try winter flounder in the springtime. Where can we find them on Long Island?

You’re only allowed 2 that are 12 inches. Doesn’t pay. I miss that fishery. Every

That is called spot burning. You have to find your own spot.
Maybe your local bait shop can steer you to a spot.

Huh. I just wanted to know name of the pier - not the the coordinates!!

Had a good day at the pier this am.
First off it stopped raining so I went. Had the place all to myself. Wound up catching 10 blackfish to 16". Two were keepers and I had to break one off under the pier because it got snagged. All fish were released and caught on green crabs. Fish bit on the out going tide.

Which pier ?

I sold about 20 5000's recently & may have a few more. I also believe I have some 4500 ambassadors. Right now I'm plugged into an IV in the hospital. I'll go home tomorrow but it may be a few days before I'm able to go to my shop. If you're interested just post it & I'll get back to you. I use ambassadors myself, they are great.

Hi I asked if you can repair a 6500 c 4

Late 90s Abu 5000, chromed brass frame, lightweight spool, bullet style line guide, ABEC 5 stainless spool bearings, lightweight brake blocks, polished worm/brake drum/idler gear post/pawl, and lubed with my usual lubricants. This guy came a long way from the spool bushings and stamped aluminum frame it had prior.

I have a 6500 c4. From Sweden. It doesn’t lock. Works like a sidewinder. Back and forth. Can you repair it ?

This was built for strength, throwing big baits, and fighting big fish. What we have is a chrome frame from a '77 Abu 5500C, side plates from a 6500 C4, and the rest of the stuff from my bin. Inside we have stock bearings, yeah boring, but there is also a stainless steel main gear and hardened bronze pinion for added durability. Along with that, I shimmed the pinion yoke just in case something happened and the pinion decided to eat the yoke. This one also has a bait clicker, which will come in handy when fishing live and dead bait off the bottom.

Not seen in the photo is the backup anti-reverse pawl that will be used in the event the IAR bearing fails. It was too cold to fish this reel today but once temps climb back into the 40s, I'm gonna give her a whirl. She is very nice and smooth, but those new gears are noisy. Sounds like a sewing machine when you crank it with no load. Under load it's much quieter. I'm thinking it'll get better as the gears wear in over time.
